No, they have plans but the last I heard SAAB AB (the defence/aerospace company) who own the rights to the SAAB name won't let NEVS use it. And we all know the only product we are ever likely to see from them is yet another facelift of the now nearly 15yrs old 9-3...

A newly conceived company called Panda New Energy have made an order for 150000 electric cars. The cars is to be built at a newly built factory in Tianjin, China. The city of Tianjin also owns 30% of the stock, an IT-company called SRIT owns 27% and the rest is owned by the NEVS CEO Kai-Johan Jiang.

On another note, the 1974 SAAB in the picture above is said to be the only remaining electrical vehicle in its original form but I wonder if the 1963-1966 Opel Rekord indicators is really original?

Why not? When they built the prototype, they took the parts, they could get. These indicators were by Bosch or Hella still in the range, that's it.

Btw.: I know some Saab-freaks (the family, who imported the first Saabs to Germany before Saab has founded a sales office here), who told me that the 1970ies Saabs are widely assembled with German parts. So the most interior and electric parts are made in Germany.

@ingo: IIRC, they did used Bosch electrical parts. I even used the Bosch spark plugs and cable on my old 1972 SAAB 99

It was many years ago when I had a light bulb replaced on the same car, the old bulb was German made.

Is it any coincidence that NEVS is Sven spelled backwards?

Not the end of SAAB, but a story I had not heard before about the Sonett III - in 1973 SAAB USA wanted a successor but Trollhatten were unenthusiatic, so SAAB USA commissioned Reliant to draw up proposals for a Sonett IV and building it in UK. Ogle did the styling and came up with a coupe with opening big glass rear window - a book drawing shows something looking like a Ford Pinto Runabout/Capri Mk.II hybrid. But 1974 oil crisis killed it.

The said-to-be last Saab 9-3 will be auctionned later this summer . The car is said to be a crash test vehicle that somehow escaped its brutal fate and has only 3.1 miles on it

But Car and Driver said it was a 2014 instead of 2013 and had 40 miles instead of 3.1...
