Rootes Arrow versions
Published 24/02/2012 @ 20:22:08, By dsl
Have been sorting through all the Arrow-based versions I can find and giving them [Arrow] chassis codes. All Chrysler/Hillman/Singer/Sunbeam versions for Hunter/Minx/Sceptre/Vogue/Gazelle/GT/Estate are done, plus the Arrow-based Sunbeam Rapiers and Alpines. Have also done the Aus Hillman Arrow and US-export Sunbeam Arrow, even though these come out as Arrow [Arrow]. If anyone finds any I've missed please shout.

Question: what do we want to do with the Iranian-made cars? They start off as exact Arrow clones but gradually develop independently into some very non-UK traits. The simplest solutions are all Arrows or none Arrows; the difficult one to pursue is early ones as Arrows, but drop it for later ones, as we then have to define a cut-off point for years and perhaps versions as well as being able to trust completely in some of the dates and IDs we've given for mid-70s onwards when bigger differences from UK emerge. I'll email paykanhunter for his thoughts as well, but all opinions welcome.

Email reply from paykanhunter:
"I consider Arrow a "Platform", therefore a Rapier should be included as you have mentioned, so should all Paykans. The later Paykans only got a facelift (they were nicknamed "Merc-Lights" version inside Iran, since the headlamps * tail-lamps resembled the late 70s Mercs).

I would consider them all Arrows, and I would add a tag for the later models as "Paykan Facelift". You also need to know that in early 80s, IranKhodro was making both the facelift version and the MKIII versions at the same time, then later they only produce them with the new face."

Edit: in light of all the controversial discussion which was eventually resolved, I've gone and [Arrow]ed all the Iranian ones to complete the task.
