The Typ codes on VW's were never based on VIN numbering, as far as I can recall.

At least in Europe, VW AG (so Å koda, Seat, Audi... as well) VINs use digits 7-8 or 7-9 to show the modell code.
As you can see in my VIN above: 7-8: AU.

I think we list many modells with a wrong or not specific code...

And since we even use different codes for different engines in the same Honda modell, we have to be as precise with the VAG cars.

It is indeed not VIN-related, but Typ 5G seems correct for the Golf VII, at least it is used everywhere.

The interest of these codes is to use what people also use to refer to vehicles.
And to group different vehicles that have names change vary from one market to the other.
If you use too-specific codes, then it is useless: why not put the full VIN then

All 93-97 Nissan Altima U13 should be Japan origin (with US-tag), it's just a US version of Bluebird.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Altima#First_generation_(U13;_1993)

Btw, from 2007+ onward. It's design by Japan, so what makes it USA origin??

The first generation was designed in California, that's why it's US origin.

As for the third generation, "It was the first mass-market product built on Nissan's new FF-L platform, which was unique to North America and had no equivalent model in Japan." The designer was also based at the Nissan California studio.

Done.
I also changed the default country for these for the next new ones (but it won't automatically set the "made in" & "made for" fields)

Thank you, on the other hand, you put "Made for F" but "Made for EU" is more accurate. "Market leader in France, MBK is also a best-seller in Italy with significant stakes in the German, Belgian, Swiss, Portugal, Greek, UK, Irish, Austrian, Spanish and Finnish markets."

Indeed. For one I changed manually I made the mistake, then repeated it for the batch update

For all "Renault 4 Parisienne" and "R4 Parisienne", chassis-code is "R1123".
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Renault_model-4+Parisienne.html
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Renault_model-R4+Parisienne.html
And for this:

Model is "4 Parisienne".
Chassis-Code is "R1123".

Done. I didn't remember we had some as "4" and some as "R4". Was there a reason behind that? (general question for all Renault 4/R4)

Renault used the R system (so also R8, and R3 as the short-lived poverty R4) until 1965, then dropped it, leaving just 4, 8. So we should never get any R10 or R16 which were 1965 launches.

None of the Ferrari BB models (365 GT4, 512, 512i) were made for USA or Canada as was discussed recently https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=7496 even if some appear to be  There are 11 of those. The single Japanese-spec car on the other hand needs more research so let it be for now...

"Grand Prixes" ? :figti:
It looks strange. I guess it comes from French. In which nouns ending by "x" are invariant. When there is more than one, it would be "grands prix" as adjectives follow the singular/plural form of the noun. But anyway as names stay invariant, I don't know what we are supposed to do here

Is there any reason why first generation VW Jettas are listed as "Typ 17"?

They were "Typ 16" for as long as I can remember. I mean I know they are based on the Typ 17 Golf but they had their own code.

Same question for the Karmann-built Beetle Cabriolet/Convertibles which were "Typ 15"?

How about.. adding Autotutto to these so they're lumped together with the other Romeo Autotutto's (it was the official name anyway)

..and deleting the hyphen for these so they become LM002
https://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&make=Lamborghini&model=- LM-002 ..or LM004 for this www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=55533

..and finally TIBB is not a name but initials for Tecnomasio Italiano Brown Boveri so it's better these change from Tibb http://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&make=Alfa+Romeo&model=- 140&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on (only the ones that already have this description that is!)

Back then we simplified the codes of the VWs when we introduced that field on the site, but if needed maybe we could change to make the closer to reality
