OK. Using the Vauxhall/Opel for a change :-

The Opel is suffixed by [a] where as the Vauxhall uses [Mk2]. Is this correct? Are they infact the same car? Should we be able to pull them up in one sort?

I don't think a search for all GM cars (for example)would be useful. GM has currently owns least 13 different makes that include SAAB, Opel and Vauxhall.

The same goes for Ford that owns Jagaur, Volvo and I believe Aston Martin.

OK, I can see GM and Ford are out, but I'd certainly like to be able to search for BMC (Austin, Morris, Wolseley et al) in one hit.

About the search on GM, I was meaning that it could be useful for somebody that wants the list of all Opel/Vauxhall/Holden... Same as for Austin/Morris/etc., Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, ...
When I have few time I plan to add special page for each make, and special search links models shared between several makes.

I do not know Vauxhall enough to answer. I am sure that for Opel the A is correct, by the way. But that's also for that reason that I suggested to change the "mk" naming system, see that thread:

Still can't get my head round some of the searches

If I click on 1100 in http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Austin_model-1100+Countryman.html for example it lists Austin 1100 but only the 1100 is underlined?

Clicking on Countryman again searches for make-Austin_model-1100+Countryman but again only Countryman is underlined.

On the otherhand if I click on Towers, but it AND Faulty are underlined.

It is not possible to easily underline both Austin and 1100 if both are separate links (which is the case, as you can click on Austin to see all Austin, and on 1100 to see all Austin 1100).
Except the underline, what is the problem? It is just a minor visual detail...

If I click on 1100 I expect to see Fiat 1100 included in the search that's all. If it is only a minor visual detail, why are other things all underlined, that's all?

Interestingly if I bring up search as a list, rather than as pics, I just get the detail on the pic, if I click on any of the words?

Well, the site was made for a search like that There is no reason for search all 1100, it is more useful to have a list of Austin 1100 if you click on the 1100 of an Austin.
In list mode, the name replaces the picture for the link to detail page. There is no "quick search" link like with the small pictures.

But aren't you interested in developing it, to do useful things?

I that case you would expect (going on other searches) for both Austin & 1100 to be underlined, that's all I was saying. If it can not be done, fair enough, but I don't see how it can be logical to make different parts of the site behave differently

Sure, but I won't change this particular point. If you want to have a list of all 1100, for all makes together, you have to use the search page.



For the movie title it is not comparable as the result is the same for all words. For the car model the result is different depending on which word you click.

I could actually remove links below the images, as the "quick search" can be done through the links on the vehicle detail page.

That's what I like; flexibility



My point exactly; different results depending on what page/word(s) you click, but obviously you are happy with this as well.

You can get yet another result; but only by clicking on [ado16] on a picture page, as it doesn't appear on a list either by image or words.
