Birth of a make

The news is not so fresh, but I'm maybe not the only one to have missed it: DS is no longer a sub-brand from Citroën, it has become officially the third make of PSA on 3 March 2015 (fr. The audio part of the English dubbed version seems to be mixed with the German one...).
Don't say Citroën DS5 anymore, but say hello to the "new" DS 5:

Before
After

Legacy is there, as the (already used) DS logo is still made of 3 chevrons
The video ad of the brand: Spirit of Avant-garde.

I know that the name Citroën wasn't used in China, but the DS "brand" over there was just due to the joint-venture with Changan (Changan PSA Automobile - CAPSA). We're here talking about the worldwide name of the cars.

• Remaining job for PSA: updating of the media. If the PSA website has now the 3 logos and uses the terms premium brand for DS, some pictures would benefit from being updated. And driveds.com is still credited to Citroën
• Job to be foreseen by the IMCDb crew: to check carefully the details on side and rear views of the cars to differentiate the ""new" vehicles from the former ones, to avoid mistakes in the identifications. Should we prepare a generic name for the "impossible to identify" ones?

It is the restyled models of next model-year that get the next name, I suppose? (2016 models)
Or is it already for some 2015 models?
Anyway when there are visible changes, it is easy.
When there are no visible changes but the year is sure, we can also call these DS.
And when we have no idea if they are older or newer, it is better to list them as Citroën, as we list them as the lowest possible model year.

I see they also registered www.dsauto.com, which i think is better than www.driveds.com, since the company name is DS Automobiles.

One possible issue is that for the moment only the DS5 has been restyled. The DS3 (and I think the DS4) still even has a grille with the chevrons.

• About the domain names:
dsauto.com (still?) leads to driveds.com, for now
According to the Whois services, both domain names are registered by Citroën, the only difference being that the server seems to be based in Ireland for driveds and in France for dsauto...

In fact, the dsauto is older: it was created in 2004, and dsdrive only in 2013. If "There Can Be Only One", will the latter be the winner, as dsauto already redirect to it?

• About the 2015 models:
I noticed this "birth" in a street ad one week ago, and the DS 5 has been unveiled during the Geneva Motor show. So there must be already some of them in the streets today. And even if sold in July, remember that in France the model year starts in January to end in December for 14 years
_____

Talking about it, this "model year subject" should be updated by making real searches about how it is now managed in different countries: the French change took officially place to fit with the habits of other European countries.
Could it be an old habit that the IMCDb keeps despite being no longer used in Europe?

RE model years: Volkswagen group now change over to the new model year from Week 22 (late May) each year. Obviously, it will take time for new model year cars to be completed, dispatched and registered so we should not automatically assume that cars that are registered after Week 22 are the new model year.

To be honest, I've never been a fan of how some people insist that something is from the next MY if it's registered in October or similar especially as I'm not convinced that all European manufacturers have definitive change over dates. I'd prefer we operated on visual changes or VIN numbers if they are available (some plate check sites such as the ones for Australia and Sweden tell us the VIN).

About the model years: from April 2009 onwards, French plates system models give a registration number that is a "car life" one. So it can help to give the date of the first registration of the 2009+ cars. When visible, of course

One possible issue is that for the moment only the DS5 has been restyled. The DS3 (and I think the DS4) still even has a grille with the chevrons.

The DS site shows rear faces at first for the 3, 3 Cabrio and 4 models, and one has to scroll to see the grille, which didn't change indeed
But their official name is already DS 3 ans DS 4, there is no Citroën in it.

About the model year, one of the reasons why we continued to use the old habit is that they usually make the visible changes in the middle of the year, so it is easier to use the old system or else there is an overlap in the year ranges between the old and the new model.

I was almost ran over by a "new" DS 4 a few days ago. No picture as I was on my bike, trying to restore my balance while the reckless driver was running away (no harm, just some anger at this #@µ! guy or girl who was "too in a hurry" to take care about the rest of the world).
But I noticed that like all DS cars bought in June 2015(1), its plate was DS-XXX-YY. The few examples that will last(2) will have something that may thrill the collectors in some years' time
_____

1: only with estimations here, as the real-time tool is out of order at time of writing.

2: they should be scarce, as:
• that make doesn't sell so much vehicle over a one-month period;
• I'm not confident in plastic lifetime;
• above all, most of these cars are bought by pretentious people believing they're kings and queens of the road, which doesn't help for the long survival of this kind of vehicle...

Kings and queens of the road drive in Citroen DS your location?
Here kings are rather in BMW & Audi, and queens in Mini or SUV.

As long as the word Premium appears somewhere in the ads or in the brochures, the drivers lose their brain (if they had any at first) and believe indeed they wear a crown. It also often happens with drivers of "non-premium" cars: in fact it's more a (stupid) state of mind than a car status...
And there is no gender differentiation in the kind of car, here. Guys in Mini are as stupid as girls in Audis...

I think this could be in the same topic, even if not related to DS but both Genesis sedan and coupe , according to the article , will leave Hyundai's line-up to be part of the Genesis brand and they should be 6 vehicles by 2020. Tried Genesis G80 ( likely the Hyundai Genesis new name ) and G90 ( the new Equus ), both vehicles named in the article and got covered cars
G90

Not that i'm not trusting motor authority ( just don't know them ) but having Motor Trend ( which i do trust ) saying about the same sure makes me think it's real...

We get the Genesis here. Why they think someone will spend nearly £50,000 on a Hyundai beats me. I'm not sure how they think it will work, in the UK Infiniti's sales figures are pathetic and no one is queuing round the block to buy a DS5 (though the DS3 sells well enough).
