Why is "Kompressor" not part of the model name for Mercedes?
Published 08/04/2019 @ 16:50:24, By MisterZ
I noticed that the site puts Kompressor in the extra info/description, rather than part of the model name. Shouldn't it be part of the name, to differentiate it from non-Kompressor models? i.e. SLK200 and SLK200 Kompressor are two different models, but on the site they are listed the same way (both just as SLK200). This is confusing.

If they are different models, indeed that should be included in the name
Does it concern all?
https://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=mercedes-benz&modelMatch=0&model=kompressor&modelInclModel=on&modelInclExtra=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=
except first one ( https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=514205 ) that should maybe be listed differently by the way...

Yes, it should apply to all of those, except a few:

https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=744376 - this one I'm not sure about...
https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=472687 - no such thing as C320 Kompressor. Either someone added a Kompressor badge to a C320, or they switched the digits of a C230 Kompressor

In addition, there are many models which currently lack "Kompressor", even in the extra details. For example, all SLK230 models were Kompressor, but we can see many in this list are missing it:

http://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=SLK+230&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=

Other models where Kompressor is missing on some:

http://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=CLK+230&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=

http://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&make=Mercedes-Benz&model=C+230+Sportcoup%E9

http://www.imcdb.org/search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&yearFrom=2001&yearTo=- 2010&makeMatch=2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=SLK+200&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=- on&mk=&origin=&madein=&madefor=&role=

A few already on the site have Kompressor in the model name:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=Mercedes-Benz&modelMatch=0&model=Kompressor&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=

Since 'Kompressor' means 'Turbocharged' isn't that more of an extra info thing than actually part of the name itself?

Yes, but the engine type has always been a part of Mercedes and BMW names. For example, we list the C200 CDI with the CDI in the model name, even though it just refers to the type of engine. Why not have that in the extra info? And before 1993, the "E" in 230E, 320E, etc. meant fuel injected. That could have been in extra info too, but it's not.

The 'Kompressor' has always been a separate badge than the main one, like '4Matic' so I'm guessing that's why it stays in extra info rather than in the main name.

Isn't the CDI also a separate badge, though? How is it different?

antp, any decision yet on this? I still think it should be in the model name, but if you decide for it to be in the extra info, it should at least be added to all the ones in the lists I provided in my post above, and for the 4 in the last list be moved from the model name to the extra info.

I don't know; and as there is no clear consensus for that I'm tempted to chose the solution that requires the less changes

Well, in the end, it's your call. It'd be good if we could get some input from others before you decide, though.

Done; what about CLK 200 ?
As I did it accidentally, but some already seemed to have it: should they have it or not?

It depends which generation. 1st gen. CLK there were 2 different CLK200 models, one was Kompressor, one wasn't. 2nd gen. CLK there were also 2 different ones, but the non-Kompressor model was only sold from 2003 to 2005 (according to Wikipedia). So the only CLK200 we can be 100% certain are Kompressor are the 2006-2009 models.
