Fastest Car You've Driven???

I don't think I've ever topped 100 mph in the Westfield, now I've got a crash helmet I might try it again. When your head sticks out over the screen & there no doors or roof, it felt fast enough! Fastest passenger ride was hitting the limiter in a Merc, which is 155mph I believe.

Fastest car driven is an Audi A4 Avant V6, again subject to the limiter, but I didn't get far over 125 before noticing - they're too quiet! On the roads big enough for silly straigt-line antics there's too many cameras.

Nowaday, I use to drive very often at a speed of 160 km (100 miles) with my Cadillac Eldorado

I normally cruise with all cars, that´s why I mostly don´t know how fast they are...

But I guess the fastest cars I´ve driven so far were several BMW M3 [E46] including 1 or 2 CSL, a 2001 BMW M5 [E39], a Maserati 3200 GT, a few Porsche 996 and a heavily tuned up 1958 Corvette.

I´m really not sure if I ever drove the De Lorean DMC 12 we once had and the same goes for the Dodge Viper. I didn´t like them, because they only had 2 doors each.

I feel whimpy. The fastest I've driven a car was 95 with my dad's old '93 Protege. The car I've driven that would be able to go the fastest was probably the '98 Tiburon that I DD with for my friends. That car had some power.

I went 180-something Km/h in my '84 Supra. I think it could have gone 200, but I remembered what my tires were speed-rated for and thought better of it.
There was no traffic, and there aren't any speed cameras here. Generally, I wouldn't worry about getting a ticket on the highway, the police seem to focus on people driving dangerously fast in heavy traffic, which I wouldn't do anyway.

In January, I mentioned that I tried to go 100 in my Corolla. In May 2008, I succeeded at that, and then I slowed back down to the speed limit(70 MPH on I-95).

I also once accidentally went 90 MPH in my first car, a 1972 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with no lights in the dashboard. If it hadn't been for the glare of the moonlight, I would never have known how fast I was driving.

When I was in high school I had a 1994 Honda Civic hatchback (1.6l I4) and my girlfriend at the time had a 1997 Thunderbird (4.6l V8) Where we live there is a bridge that is straight as an arrow and 3-miles long and that was the place to see how fast your car could go. My gf used to give me a hard time about my slow import so I challenged her to a race. She laughed but we were off and she left me in the dust BUT I knew something that she didn't: her car was limited to 101 mph and mine was not so I ended up chasing her down and winning the race, with the civic getting up to a shaky 137 mph. Later in life we raced that same Thunderbird against my 89 Taurus SHO but the Thunderbird threw a rod at about 80 mph. I have gone faster in my life (around 150) both in my 96 Mustang GT and my 93 Pontiac Sunbird, the latter with the help of Nitrous, but never has anything been as thrilling (or scary) as that first time in the Civic.

The fastest I have driven my V-10 Fleetside was around 60-65 mph (96-105 kph). Sounds boring, sure, but in my defense I was driving in sand with 4High.

The 4x4 pickup looked like this at the time (circa 2000) still basically preserved in it’s '80s guise with aftermarket '80s window tint, that had long since magically changed to a purple hue...

http://thumbnails43.imagebam.com/15788/3822b3157878141.jpg

Up to that time anyone who lived in southeastern NC and had a 4x4 could go to the unofficial official off road park the locals called "yellow banks". The yellow banks was a vast track of land located near Southport, NC. You could travel there several times and not see the same thing twice. It was like going somewhere different every time.

It contained lots of different terrain from gravel, mud, clay, ruts, dirt, dirt/sand mix, pure sand, lots of downed trees of all shapes and sizes (likely caused by past Hurricanes that swept through the area) which were good for testing ground clearance and suspension travel, hills, and small ravines. It was in many ways like an off road park, but natural-made, no man-made obstacles. The only terrain it lacked was rocks and snow.

This is where I would usually go for recreational off roading (for fun); and where I reached 65 in locked four-wheel drive high range. The other place I would sometimes go was the open field we own behind our home.

Since then the yellow banks (most of it, if not all) was purchased by St. James, a golf/plantation community, and subsequently developed for additional housing, golf courses and any other future projects St. James might want to use the land for.

Kind of sad considering how many individuals and families that used that land for off road, camping, or just general recreation. On the weekends you would find all sorts of vehicles from traditional 4x4s, personal 4x4s (quad ATVs, three-wheelers, etc), dirt bikes, to even some home-made contraptions that didn’t look too safe.

Some weeks ago I covered almost 360 Km on the highway from Cuneo to Modena with this 1989 Audi quattro 20V, that belongs to a friend, also member of the italian club Audiclassiche. That's obviously the fastest car and the best car that I drove so far. One of my favourite Audis, definitely. A proper dream car.

Sorry for one off-topic-posting, it will be only this one.

@walter: as you have mentioned the Audiclassice-club: I would like to swap this funny little Audi-goodie with something adequate

Sure - who would get the idea to create old-style shot-glasses with an Audi 60 today? Especially if you think about the fact, that the classic schnapps like "Korn" or "Doppelkorn" became very uncool and unmodern in Germany in the past years. It's something for old men from the countryside. Younger people like it only combinated with lemonade as an alcopop.

I've now had the nerve to take my old 1996 Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 Tourer (automatic) to its maximum speed of 132/133mph on the speedo, it was on the M1 a couple of months ago (during daytime actually). Normally I think it's daft to do that kind of speed because if I got caught = instant driving ban (don't know how that LondonItalian bloke got away with what he claims) but I was going up north trying to do a long journey quickly so was doing 90-100 for quite a while, so I just thought "what the hell" and tried to see if it could still reach its alleged 130+ mph top speed. So that's the fastest I've ever been in a car yet, but now I've done it, I probably shouldn't do it again, not in that car (if anything it may not be the best thing for the engine, it was doing over 5000 revs at that speed). I did it on a long, quiet section, I really don't think I could have done that speed going through a curve with my car's suspension.

The speed itself didn't feel like that big a deal (the Omega is a fairly smooth car), it's really the worry of getting caught (wouldn't like to be without a driving licence)

Indeed, a beautiful car

At the beginning of the topic I mentioned that I never drove (much  ) above the 120-130 km/h limit, but last summer as I went to Berlin I could drive up to 170-180 km/h (the limit was rather due to the car, my Peugeot 206SW)

I haven't got my license yet, so the fastest I've driven is only about 120km/h (in a 110 zone), whilst passing a truck. Did it in my dads '97 Aussie Ford Fairlane. I've been in the car when dad has had it at 140-150. I'm pretty sure hes taken it to 200 though, just I've never been in the car when he did.

It varies. http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/SpeedVSFines/SpeedVSFines.htm scroll down the page and there's a table of real life examples. One Ferrari driver got to keep his licence and paid a £1000 fine instead for doing 117mph (on a single carriageway 60mph road).
