This was a real treat:
Not only is it a Golf II, whose population has heavily decimated since the Abwrackprämie of 2010, but it's a 1984-85 model, which, of all the Golf IIs you would encounter nowadays, would be the absolute least likely model year, and it's in fabulous condition save for the steel wheels, which could use a coke bath.
The owner could save himself a lot of money every year if he put it on an H-plate.

From old VWs to brand new ones: Recently I saw in the parking lot of a hotel in a very small village nearly more VWs than on the great dealer's backyards in my area. In front of this hotel were six new Touareg, four Arteons, three T-Rocs and some old and facelifted Passat Variants... And today I saw for the first time a 2015 Polo GTI V infront of a supermarket. There were a new Ford Mustang and a 2009 Camaro, too. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take pictures...

Yesterday I was delayed for our K 70-Club general meeting, because the driver of a 90ies Nissan Skyline has played flipper on the A2.
Fortunately such a car and not the Lancia Flavia Coupé (with original Italian plates), which was also stuck in the traffic.

No, it had a VW logo on the rear next to script, so 1984-85.

So? The 1986-87 had that, too. Logo change occurred for the 1988 MY.

Frankfurt/Main seems to be a town of ‘once common, now vanished’ cars - today I spotted there a Golf II, but furthermore a 1987-92 Mazda 626 (with period plate!) and a Mitsubishi Space Runner (!!)

It says Adventurer, which was the upper trim level when unveiled in 1970, with the previous generation of D-Series. But it became an intermediate trim level from 1971 until 1980 and the name disappeared with the 1981+ models.

In Frankfurt:
US spec Chrysler PT Cruiser with no repeater (but strange bumper, US plate size but European rear fog lights?)
Chevrolet Astro with a rather stupid trick of the light, makes it look like it has a repeater but it hasn't:

Nothing special for our American friends, but here in Germany...
There was an old Plymouth only a few blocks down, but I didn't photograph that.

They had a nice series of Flash commercials where an Element would be in a conversation with animals.
(among others a unicorn, a kangaroo and the infamous crab)
There was also one highly controversial (and I think banned) commercial where the Element was talking with a pointer dog...
