Subject: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
29/01/2008 @ 00:22:47: G-MANN: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
From the London to Brighton page:

G-MANN: A 1997 Volvo V70 T5, from the alternate ending on the DVD [thumbnails were posted]

carchasesfanatic: Add it with a main photo

G-MANN: You mean I should list it? I've added cars from deleted scenes before (I'm not sure everyone agrees with it), but what about alternate endings? On Ronin I added two vehicles from the alternate ending on the DVD (picture quality is usually poor because the unused footage isn't processed for the final film)

carchasesfanatic: Yes you should add it, i disagreed at the begining but its not that bad, its better i guess, actually, an alternative ending keeps being a deleted scene, i think a star from a different color, like a black one or a red one would be usefull to give to cars that com from trailer, deleted scenes or alternative endings.

antp: Usually we include pictures from trailer, deleted scenes and alternate endings. Just put something to identify them in episode or time-tag field. (e.g. "del" or "alt" in episode)

carchasesfanatic: A star would be much easier and useful

antp: Yes, I should add something like that... I wonder why I didn't do that yet, as you said it would be much easier & useful.
It will be for next weekend if I've time.

G-MANN: You don't have to do that, a comment explaining that it's from a deleted scene or alternate ending should be enough

carchasesfanatic: Not really, i dont agree, if it doesnt take much time to him to do it i'd ask him to, comments are usually deleted, a star cant be remove and when you enter a page of a movie if you see a star from a different color youll see the car isnt in the final movie, i really see it usefull

G-MANN: (carchasesfanatic wrote comments are usually deleted)

Are they? Only totally irrelevant comments should be deleted.

G-MANN: (antp wrote Usually we include pictures from trailer, deleted scenes and alternate endings.)

Can I also add the vehicles from the alternate ending to Ronin?

carchasesfanatic: Yes they are, by accident for example when someone creates a new entry rather than just replacing the picture comments are gone, a star would still be much better, really.

G-MANN: Would it just be one different star for a deleted scene/alternate ending, or would we still keep 1, 2 and 3 stars except in a different colour?

carchasesfanatic: Hmm, that's not a bad idea actually, but cars form deleted scenes will usually take a roll between one and two stars, no bigger i think.

G-MANN: Perhaps 3 stars if it belongs to an important character but certainly not 4 stars in any case.

carchasesfanatic: But take into account that the car would only appear in that scene, therefore i doubt itll take three stars, the deleted scene would have to be very long for it to deserve as many i think.

G-MANN: Maybe you're right.

antp: (carchasesfanatic wrote Yes they are, by accident for example when someone creates a new entry rather than just replacing the picture comments are gone, a star would still be much better, really.)

You are the only one to do that (as when the new entry is created it is still possible to delete the new one rather than the old one so it is never "by accident" that the comments are deleted)

Anyway, if it is a different star, it will be easy. But is it useful to make a difference of role? I was thinking 1 red star = deleted scene, 1 blue star = trailer, 1 green star = alternative end (we can change these colors of course ), as none of these car really have a "role" in the movie itself. It will be more complicated to start mixing colors and number of stars.

(G-MANN wrote Can I also add the vehicles from the alternate ending to Ronin?)

Yes (though that I would have done that anyway the day I will replace pics by better ones )

carchasesfanatic: Colors are gonna be a mess im afraid

G-MANN: Nothing's ever simple on this site is it? I thought perhaps just have stars in one other colour to cover deleted scenes/alternate/trailers (does it really happen much that a car WORTH MENTIONING is shown in the trailer and not the movie?). Or we could just stick with having a simple comment (or write deleted in the time bit) below the main image to let people know it's from a deleted scene.

carchasesfanatic: An only color star will be enough, that will mean the car is not in the final cut, wether from a different edition of the film, or trailer, or deleted scene or alternative ending, i think colors will be confusing, byut then as G-MANN says it wont happen many times, so wheneever we get one fo these cars we can just go down and see what the color means, perhaps its not a bad idea in the end hmm what do you think ?

G-MANN: (antp wrote I will replace pics [for Ronin] by better ones)

Will they be as good as ones I can get? 720 pixels wide and vivid colours?

carchasesfanatic: Hmm i could get them as well, i have the DVD.

antp: instead of colors I could put an icon (trash for deleted scene, and find something else for the two others)

(G-MANN wrote Will they be as good as ones I can get? 720 pixels wide and vivid colours?)

I already said you yes, and I gave you an example on the forum of an identical image to what you were doing. The reason why my old pics are looking bad is that old versions of MPC had a less good quality, and that some of Ronin's pics are still from the divx.
As I said on the forum I'd like to replace these pics myself as I added most of the pics of that movie (which was the first one that I added to imcdb), and I'll do it some day

G-MANN: Will you add pictures that aren't compressed?

antp: DVD image itself is already compressed. All pics on this site are compressed. Some are more than others, I'll compress mine normally like what I do for all pics that I upload. There are already 5 GB of pictures, there would be 1 or 2 GB more if every pic was compressed like yours

The part about Ronin was not especially useful

All I have to say about that is at least my pictures look good.

I do not find that the a little more compressed images look much less good.
Of course if you look closely you see more compression artefact, but for a general use the pic quality is still quite acceptable for the site and for the kind of use made here.
You make your pictures from original DVDs, many of the others (including me) usually do it from divx or recompressed DVDs, it is normal that the pic quality is a little less good (but do not worry about Ronin, my DVD is an original one  )
I can compress less than you, it will look a little better, but also waste a little more space and take more bandwidth (currently about 160 GB/month).
At a time it was decided that the average compression should be 20/25% to not loose too much quality and not loose to much space either.

I added these new ratings. As there were not much other comments made, I finally made few icons:
http://www.imcdb.org/res/star-altend.png Seen only in an alternative ending
http://www.imcdb.org/res/star-cut.png Seen only in deleted scenes
http://www.imcdb.org/res/star-trailer.png Seen only in preview/trailer

And I modified the icon of unknown role:
http://www.imcdb.org/res/star-unknown.png

I will now do a batch-update for cars which had "del" or "trailer" in their episode or time-tag field.
If you think to other changes to make to a large number of vehicles, do not hesitate to notify me.

Note : do not use the "seen only in trailer" role for cars added from the trailer video if you do not know if they appear or not in the final movie.

Good job antp!

Thanks Antoine

I added 3 cars from a deleted scene some time ago. See comments here movie_356910-Mr-and-Mrs-Smith
02/02/2008 @ 20:22:23: antp: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
Well you posted them there rather than on the forum, that's why they were missed
I'll add these later.

Good idea.

Thank you.
I added those pictures the time I didn't know how to submit them the right way.

nice. I missed this conversation about adding such role, but I think it is alright. One little thing though - I think, it should be better to place those three new possibilities below the current ones in selection list by adding a new car. Those will be used only rarely I believe and therefor more scrolling for other, more used roles..
03/02/2008 @ 02:24:02: antp: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
That's what CarChasesFanatic also asked.
I use keyboard rather than mouse so I did not really noticed that it would be a problem.
But why do you all call moving the mouse "scrolling"? :figti: (it took me few minutes to understand what Ccf wanted to mean  )
03/02/2008 @ 06:45:04: ahight: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
i just noticed those too. i like having them and thought they'd be better below the main stars.

my other thought...what about adding 1-, 2-, 3- to the beginning of the other options? then instead of having to pull down the menu, you could just click on the pull down and type 1, 2, or 3 to select it. just a thought!
03/02/2008 @ 14:58:13: antp: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
well, currently you can already just press the "down" key N times to have the Nth item, it is somewhat similar. I could indeed add the number, it won't cost much
03/02/2008 @ 15:05:59: wickey: Alternate endings/deleted scenes

But why do you all call moving the mouse "scrolling"?

probably due to the "wheel" used to do that in centre of the mouse between buttons..
Anyway, it is probably just a matter of time till we admins get used to it, but it could be better the old way with additions on the bottom end
03/02/2008 @ 19:44:37: antp: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
But whole list is visible without needing to scroll :figti:
Do not worry, I will change that, it is just that I am lazy to write something which fills the list in an order different than the "automatic" one (as these new ratings are considered as -1/-2/-3 by the site, as they are in a way even less important than background cars: they are not even in the movie)
04/02/2008 @ 16:54:58: Raul1983: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
Nova Sterling replica appeared in a deleted scene in Black Shampoo.

http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=74214

maybe you can add it ?
04/02/2008 @ 17:04:15: antp: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
Why me? You are admin too
04/02/2008 @ 21:56:33: Raul1983: Alternate endings/deleted scenes
OK, now it's done  This is a very good idea. It's a shame we didn't have this system before. I could have added more cars from deleted scenes but I don't have the movies anymore  :bombe:
