Are you sure? i dont think so

It is in some other European countries, but this do not prevent many people from doing it sometimes (including me, but only in streets where there is a very low trafic)
Maybe it is the same in Spain.

This is the first time I post in this thread. I was a bit doubtful, but CarChasesFanatic told me this one worths it:

I've only seen two cars in Europe with US plates, and seeing one in a relatively unknown town like Zaragoza surprised me. Extremely clean Murano from Michigan, looks a hundred times better than the European version.

That plate is fake I think, it doesn't start with "B" and all the plates of that new style do. Very strange....
18/09/2008 @ 21:35:56: ingo: interesting/funny/special cars sightings

really want to do is to take a baseball bat to her Chevrolet and show her the true meaning of a "junky" car :oh: (I won't really of course, it is just a fantasy of mine)

I suggest a quieter, decenter and more incognito way to wreck their car: just fill some ounces (in Europe we have it in 1-liter-tetrapacks) of buttermilk in the air-intake-grille.

Haha, no I don't really want to vandilize her car, that'd be quite mean. More becuase of respect for the car than respect for her, however

I saw a mint condition Triumph TR6 today, it was a midnight blue color. The windows were down and inside was a unopened case of Beck's beer. I was riding my bike at the time and I actually went out of my way just to look at it. It was parked right next to a busy stoplight and the people were staring at me staring at the Triumph. I think it looks exotic enough for it to be okay for me to be staring at it.

People often give me funny looks when I gawk cars, as 95% of the time the cars I'm gawking at are not something anyone else would consider special! In fact they are often rusted clunky old junkers that I am only looking at becuase they are rare.
One bad experience I had was at the local taxi garage. I had drove into the lot where the cabs are parked to take pictures out the window of my car. I had been sitting there for a couple minutes when a lady yelled at me from inside the building
"Excuse me, can I help you?"
I yelled back, "no I'm just taking pictures"
"what?"
"I like taxis!"
"....okay"
she was obviously confused

@ looking for cars, and other stuff,

We have nosey people/residents who look for changes in our subdivision (i.e. someone painting their home’s shutters a different color, a family getting a dog or cat, new cars, new plants or flowers added to the yards … etc, etc) These things get brought up for discussion in the neighborhood’s POA meetings. I call them "gossip" meetings and I rarely attend them.
A retired elderly couple who live on the street behind my house got a new Lexus GS sedan a few weeks ago, the car was discussed by a few residents during a POA meeting. They were trying to figure out whether or not it was the more expensive hybrid.
23/09/2008 @ 01:44:26: taxiguy: interesting/funny/special cars sightings
My god, Neptune you need to move somewhere else, the people in your neighborhood sound like jerks, they must really not have a life if all they do is care about stupid pointless stuff like that... I just can't stand the kind of people like that. Reminds me of my next door neighbor in a way
23/09/2008 @ 02:43:44: Neptune: interesting/funny/special cars sightings
I would say a good portion (say 70-75% of the residents) that live in this subdivision came from far up north. Their cars would have New Jersey or New York tags (before being switched to North Carolina tags) Many of them seem to be well-to-do, and are very materialistic, always worried that someone else has better than them. But I pay them no attention.

They don’t know anything about cars though, that’s for sure. The older couple has the cheaper plain gas version GS not the gas-electric hybrid. I’m waiting to see how many Lexus GS hybrids show up in driveways around here ...

@Max: cars are an important point, neighbours are talking about.

Two weeks ago, we had a neighbourhood-party, just for the 8, 9 houses around. My wife and me were newbies, we're just living here since March.
No kidding, four neighbours have asked me, if I am a Bundeswehr-officer. They told me, that they had discussed it before, because of my olive-green, former army-Opel Omega. The civil license-plate, the "Scotland"-sticker in the back window and the cloth-turtle on the dashboard they haven't realized.

One lady even had said, that the was grumbling, where the extra apartment of the general's driver would be, when the general is living here.

If you drive any car, which is not "decent mainstream", surely the neighbours will gossip about the car an the owner, everywhere on the world.

It makes fun, if you irritate them really. In 1994 I lived for a few months at my grandmother, in a real noble and high-priced area of the town of Essen. My grandmother was a well known, respected resident over there, she lived in one of the bigger houses.
The neighbour's gossip must be extreme, when they saw the car, I had in that months: a K 70 in self-made "Blues Brothers"-outfit, really nasty made with tar and white wall-paint.
And imagine their faces, when they saw my grandmother getting out of that freak-car at the local supermarket.
It was an unbelievable fun

Aren't those vans common in Europe?
24/09/2008 @ 09:29:51: antp: interesting/funny/special cars sightings
As Mercedes yes, but not as Dodge/Freightliner.

I saw a Rolls-Royce Phantom and a Bentley Continental GTC that looked somewhat like this:

It has been fairly good weather-wise around here, so I suppose more people are taking their toys out for a drive.

For a long time ive been wanting to take a picture of this car, that has been there for ages  i dont know who and why decided to put the car on the roof of the dealership but the car has been resisting up there, as i said, for years and years.

The picture could be better but i had to do it from the car whilst it was moving so that was the best thing i could take.

That's so neat! So it is a Citroen dealership? What a good idea. Maybe I'll donate our Beetle to the local Volkswagen dealership for the smae purpose

Last weekend I've beenn on the North Sea-island Norderney. The fire brigade has a put Trabant Universal (in selfmade fire-brigade-design) on their roof in the same way.

In 2006, at our Chile/Rapa Nui-trip, I've seen a private car museum in Patagonia, near to Punta Arenas, which owner has mounted a car on a big pile as eye-catcher - a NSU Prinz 4. Probably the most Southern NSU in the world.
25/09/2008 @ 23:10:50: atom: interesting/funny/special cars sightings
Between Trollhättan and Jönköping there is a Trabant on the roof of a gasstation.

And between Trollhättan and Gothenburg there is a small airplane on a pidestal painted in the same way as the Preem gasstation. I was told that the owner is a fly nut.

Up in Stockholm I saw a fairly new icecreamtruck up on a pidestal:
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/6685/img3913yk5.th.jpg http://img440.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

The Volvo dealer in Trollhättan used to have a car on it's roof (allways new models) but not anymore.
In Vänersborg however, they have a Volvo V50 on the roof of the Volvo dealer.

And the junkyard in Vänersborg have a motorcycle on its roof, they are one of few motorcycle-junkyards so they want to make a big deal out of it I guess.

That was the missplaced vehicles I could think of right now...

A 1968-72 Chevrolet El Camino SS with the lightning fast 454 motor. Again, someone who knows these can tell me the exact year.
