Funny enough that they ask as a requirement to have a "professional-looking" website, when their very websites are always faulty and full of bugs and glitches...

Anyway I see only banners for Ilivid and other similar adware crap...
18/01/2014 @ 17:58:24: antp: Nude pics vs Google
Yes, because currently it is an ad provider for "any site". Hence why I wanted something more professional

One that could be interesting for imcdb is http://buysellads.com/ but they weren't interested for the moment.

If you have ideas of good ad providers, do not hesitate to submit them.

I think you should keep trying to contact Google to find out exactly what we'd have to remove. Otherwise we might not be able to find all the offending images.

One of the reasons why we are rewriting it.

Do you have any idea when the "new" site will be finished? Do you aim to do it this year at least?
18/01/2014 @ 18:23:56: antp: Nude pics vs Google
Don't you think I tried to have details?

We hope to finish it this year, yes.
Most of the main things are done, we still have a few things to add, make the design and convert data.

Yes, but I don't know much. If it was me and it was my money I was missing out on I'd keep trying til I got a proper response.

What will the new site look like? How will it be different?

There's Bing, similar to Google Ads provided by their rival Yahoo, but you probably are aware of that.

The Amazon idea I guess takes time to implement, but you get a commission (4% on a DVD sale??) and no annoying flashing banners. (Which I've been blocking for years, I don't know how these make money..)
18/01/2014 @ 18:38:55: G-MANN: Nude pics vs Google
At 4% commission we'd have to have thousands of people buying DVDs through our site. And how many people actually buy DVDs this way? (instead of just going straight to Amazon when they're looking for a particular one)

You only get automatic replies from big companies like that :ohwell:
I'll try again but after the few tries, I preferred to really clean the most possible pages before continuing, as when you ask for info you have to swear that you cleaned the site

Problem is also if I ask too much they may completely ban the site. As they also provide search engine and web browser, that may end up having the site blocked for ¼ of the planet (imagine if the site is removed from Google search or classified as suspicious by Chrome...)
One thing I hade from that big company who has way too much power in many domains (and why I try to use as few as possible their products).
Also why I to avoid these gigantic companies like Google/Samsung or Apple I had to rather buy a Microsoft/Nokia smartphone! (who would have believed that 10 years ago).

Yes, I am waiting for a reply from them, as I asked for registration/signup

Thousands? That's 1$ on a 25$ purchase, if the aim is about 50$ a month that shouldn't be impossible with the number of daily visitors. (most non-registered, non-posting) I'm not saying we'll all get rich with it.

But do they want it to be 100% clean (zero images with nudity)? Because if so that could be difficult. Or does the number have to be just low enough to fall under the radar?

Thousands a year, I meant. And $25 is a fairly expensive purchase for a DVD, is it not? (like buying a boxset) I would have guessed most movie DVDs that aren't new Blu-Ray releases would be under $10 (I don't know, I'm in the UK)

The more I clean the higher are the chances that I clean those that they originally found (but do not want to tell me) or that they could find if they search more after I ask again.
Also, all other advertisers have rules about adult contents, so it can still be useful to avoid problems with other ones.
18/01/2014 @ 19:32:39: G-MANN: Nude pics vs Google
But unless we know what they expect we could just be wasting our time, because they might want zero nudity (including even stuff like this: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_6455-Pontiac-Bonneville-2000.html ) and it could very hard for us to find it all. And if that's the case, then we should probably just forget about Google ads.
18/01/2014 @ 19:52:44: antp: Nude pics vs Google
That one should be censored, I suppose...

Oh that's just great :kaola:

Clean the site, but we're not going to tell you how clean it really has to be and if you keep asking us about this, we'll ban you. Brilliant. Is that really the way it is then?
19/01/2014 @ 14:52:28: ingo: Nude pics vs Google
Are all of the possibilities ruled by US-laws? If there are European companies, we could (should!) stop this f*cking self-censorship.

But then we have to delete pics like http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_667056-Honda-Civic-EJ.html as for example in Germany illegal.

^ I did not know Luis Suarez had been in films.
19/01/2014 @ 17:41:07: 3loader: Nude pics vs Google
I would chose this http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_117415-Willys-MB--Jeep-.html for censoring without regrets
