It is of course excellent addition to the site, only one thing worry me a bit - I guess, I can't delete the pic, I uploaded by mistake or when I want to replace one thumb by another - in better quality for example?
From time to time I'll run a script which will delete images not used in any comment.
So in these both cases the old picture will disappear after a short time (when the script will find it).

Clever
- very good, as I made one or two "duplicates".
18/02/2012 @ 21:33:53: antp: Replacement of imageshack
The replacement of old pictures seem to work well for both html & bbcode imageshack tags.
Problems not yet fixed:
- pictures not found that will not be converted, obviously
- png pictures, there aren't so many, and were usually posted by people who do not post that much. I'll maybe also get them later (and convert them then) but for the moment I'll only focus on jpegs
There are a lot of different cases, as imageshack links styles changed a few times (event the domain name: they used imageshack.us, echo.cx, exs.cx) but all of that is well handled now
20/02/2012 @ 10:59:26: antp: Replacement of imageshack
I started the replacement of pictures on the real database
20/02/2012 @ 11:37:34: antp: Replacement of imageshack
And of course I made a mistake that I am now trying to fix
20/02/2012 @ 13:22:31: antp: Replacement of imageshack
Because of a mistake I made, all images which were not available from imageshack in comments with ID below 20669 contain now a "picture not available" image instead of the old dead imageshack link.
Images from comments after that will keep the old dead imageshack link even after the importation.
I'll try to get these again in the next days/weeks (as sometimes the image is not especially lost, but only not available right now). But those that were really lost by imageshack will be really lost of course; maybe many of those will be recoverable from the backup, but that'll be a manual work (most likely).
20/02/2012 @ 17:46:49: antp: Replacement of imageshack
Processed about 78 000 comments of million to process. Those were maybe not those containing the most pictures, so it may take more time for newer ones. I hope I'll have time to finish that before imageshack deletes all.
The automatic replacement will be done up to comment nr 1 108 900, which was posted on 2012-02-12 21:41
So if you have imageshack pictures posted after that moment (for a given movie or on a vehicle page) and that you want them converted, just ask me, I can easily do that. But I won't do it for all recent comments of everyone since after the date I mentioned above some comments where posted with both old and new system, sometimes with purpose, cf vilero's message between pages 1 and 2 of this topic.
(I'll still continue to backup new pictures posted on imageshack, just in case of)
20/02/2012 @ 20:25:22: owlman: Replacement of imageshack
Excellent
Can you maybe provide a list of movies or cars with dead imageshack links, so people can more easily find & re-upload them if they have backups?
20/02/2012 @ 21:00:27: antp: Replacement of imageshack
Yes, it should be possible.
But most are backuped.
So I'll also put the backups online so anyone can search in these.

Great work antoine!
I missed the kickoff of the new feature, so a couple of images were uploaded on imageshack I guess...
As we say in Holland: 'Petje af!'
21/02/2012 @ 16:01:10: Neon: Replacement of imageshack
Pictures upload on foreign sites like Abload.de, Imagestime.com, Imagehost.org, etc. will be replaced or you can do that only for Imageshack and Geting?
I ask because some users (me too
) used them in the past
21/02/2012 @ 16:02:21: antp: Replacement of imageshack
I could do abload
for the others I must check
I won't do imagebam however (for the same reason I do not backup these)
22/02/2012 @ 23:30:10: antp: Replacement of imageshack
e-mail that I received today:
We noticed that your ImageShack account has reached or close to reaching maximum number of images allowed for free accounts.
We wanted to notify you in advance that free accounts now have a limit of 500 images. After you reach this limit, older images above 500 will expire within a month and will be subject to deletion. [...]
So will these be deleted in a week as said on the site, or in a month as said there?
Anyway, the transfer of pictures goes well, more than half was already processed and copied to imcdb server.
23/02/2012 @ 10:11:20: garco: Replacement of imageshack
Good work antoine! I hope you have a batch doing it for you
23/02/2012 @ 11:33:45: antp: Replacement of imageshack
Of course, it is a script that I made that I run by batch of 100000 comments (I run four at the same time on different ranges), it would not be possible to do manually
To recover lost images from backup however I am not sure I could make it automatic for imageshack, as sometimes different images have the same file name.
However for geting.se recovery I think I'll be able to make it automatic.
23/02/2012 @ 15:35:00: weasel1984: Replacement of imageshack
Well nevermind, if you can't recover the imageshack pics, only some have been lost.
BTW You will upload backups of the "thumbs" only? Or they will be mixed together with the backups of the main images? As it would indicate some really huge file to download - all pics from all years (?) - and a real hell too search through them.
23/02/2012 @ 16:28:55: antp: Replacement of imageshack
Main pictures are separated
And if I upload them, I have to provide some file search possibility: it is useful to find a file based on its name, but a listing of thousands of files would be too much
23/02/2012 @ 20:13:49: chicomarx: Replacement of imageshack
@antp Maybe this is a useful program
http://www.encaps.net/ It would replicate the gallery view and thumbnail links of hosting sites. And it's free. You probably have PHP/SQL support and all that...
23/02/2012 @ 20:52:03: antp: Replacement of imageshack
But that's not really useful in this case, is it?
23/02/2012 @ 23:41:15: antp: Replacement of imageshack
All comments (up to 2012-02-12) were processed, so most of the images from imageshack are now saved locally.
I'll continue trying to get those which were not available in the first pass (I started a second pass, several more were available which weren't a few days ago).
There are still some PNGs not converted, but I guess these were uploaded by people who didn't had too much pics anyway, we can converted such pictures manually when we randomly find them in comments.
