Why are all the Oldsmobile/Chevrolet Alero using weird chassis codes? They used the same body as the Chevrolet Malibu...[GMX130]. Why were they all changed?

I suppose someone changed these manually, I don't remmeber having done something recently for these (except if listed somewhere here on the last pages, and that I forgot :D)

Isn't Denel just the group/company?
Here there are two badges/logos, one for Denel one for Mechem:
http://admin.denel.co.za/uploads//MECHEM_Vehicles.pdf
It looks more like Mechem is part of Denel, but then the company/make could be just Mechem.

That’s probably the case.

There are a bunch naming inconsistencies amongst some Iranian vehicles. I will sum them all up into one post though, as there aren't that many Iran Khodro/Saipa's on the site

The Iran Khodro Samand Soren (which is the correct naming, since the Samand Soren is like a better version of the Samand essentially) is only correctly listed once, see here and all the other Samand Soren's seem to be listed as only Iran Khodro Soren (see here, although they should be named Samand Soren.

The Zamyad Z24 is on some occasions listed as SAIPA Z24 (see here), however, they should all be listed as Zamyad Z24 (as seen here) since Zamyad was only taken over by SAIPA in 1998 and was an independent brand before and it still exists as a brand, even though it is SAIPA's subsidiary.
Actually after reading more this one is kinda tricky because both Saipa and Zamyad produced them and since there's no way to know there's no way to know I suppose.

That's all I suppose

Usually when more than one make produce the same vehicle ( or a twin with a different name ) we choose one of the makes by default ( most known, most popular , a North American example being Dodge Neon over Plymouth Neon )

So, if Saipa produced more of them, are more known, sold more we could go with them by default over Zamyad ( unless there is evidence that we're looking at a Zamyad, of course.. )

There's a Zamyad badge on the Zamyad's grille. Which is different from the Saipa's.

Yeah, initially I thought that this was not a case with the models from the 80s though, idk why. However, they still have a Zamyad badge. I guess what confused me is that in Iran you just call them Nissan vanet so I thought they were all just made by Zamyad but nope

The MB Vito/Vito Tourer W447 was released in October 2014, so it's MY 2015. We list all of the W447 range as 2014, but just the V-Klasse is MY 2014 since it was released in May '14.

The 2000-09 Volkswagen Sharan was introduced in May 2000, so I think it should be MY 2001:

Same with the Seat Alhambra, which followed in July 2000:

May 2000 is MY 2001 ? That's pushing it a bit too far, IMHO.

Hi, we need to change many 70 series Landcruisers - these changed to J78/J79 model code in 2000 (late 1999).

These need to be changed from J70 to J79:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=2000&yearTo=200- 6&makeMatch=2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=J70&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on- &mk=&class6=6&class15=15&origin=&madein=&madefor=&role=

And:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=2000&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=J70&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&class62=- 62&origin=&madein=&madefor=&role=

And these are J78, except for the 4 listed below:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=2000&yearTo=200- 6&makeMatch=2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=J70&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on- &mk=&class7=7&origin=&madein=&madefor=&role=

except these 4:

Long time ago we decided on using only Jx0 codes as the letter before the J and the last digit was not always possible to tell, and these more generic codes are easier to group together the generations of Land Cruiser.
24/04/2020 @ 10:06:12: MisterZ: Mass change model info thread
Well, if that's the case, then all the existing J76/J78/J79 on the site will have to be changed back to J70? Should we do this?
24/04/2020 @ 19:45:23: Exiv96: Mass change model info thread
Those J76/J78/J79 Land Cruisers have one thing in common : they're all facelifted versions, starting in 2007. Reference about those was plentiful, so I did update those codes, but I left the earlier ones untouched.

If you have good reference about older 70-series Land Cruisers and their chassis codes, I guess we can do further updating. But so far I prefered to stay away from the subject. It seemed way too complex.
24/04/2020 @ 19:54:03: Exiv96: Mass change model info thread
Also, while I'm here, I've been updating Honda chassis codes, especially Civics, because it's a bit of a mess.

For instance, many of the fourth gen. Civic have been entered with an EF code, but that was only applied on JDM models. Export versions had different codes, EC, ED, sometimes EE too.

So if you see various Civics with codes such as ED6, EG8 or EH2, don't worry, that's from me. And I've found reference to support that.
