Hi,I know there are Opel's in the USSR and in Poland. But are there Volkswagen's and Opel's in the DDR and in the Warsaw pact country's. Also were there there any Volkswagen vans or wagons/cars in the USSR. To be 100 percent sure were there a lot of Opel's in the USSR aswell, there cars I have seen but any wagons. If you know or have pictures I would love to see them!

Thanks!

Hello Gaz52,
sorry for the late reply - yes, there were Opel and VW in COMECON countries.

There was a little bit an official export, mostly known the 10.000 1977 VW Golf to the DDR, but during all the years in many COMECON-countries (in DDR and USSR very rarely, compared with Poland for example) people could buy Western cars, if they had Western money.

In the DDR there stayed a few Opel-garages from pre-war times up to the 1970ies, but after the 13.August 1961 they had no official chance to get spare parts.

It was forbidden to bring car spare parts into the DDR.
