Thanks for the story
It is crazy that Golf/Rabbit is so cheap in USA.

yep, "3 V Dubs under seventeen thousand!"

Yeah, Daytime Running Lights. I hate them, but they serve their purpose.

I always wear my seatbelt. It makes me uncomfortable if I don't wear it.

I don't plan on getting a new VW. I can't afford any new car at the moment. It was just a spur of the moment thing to go try one. I might consider it when I have enough money, but that might be quite a bit into the future. On another message board I frequent, one member commented "I can't imagine you selling your Sable. Ever." I love my Sable too much.

About DRL, I suppose that it is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRL

Sorry I meant "DRL" not DLR. Qwerty mentions something about "DRL".

And I ware my seatbelt about 100% of the time although sometimes I do forget to ware it. Of course now, my Expedition makes sure I don’t forget to put it on. :ddr555:

I also make sure both my kids ware their seatbelts. Sorry to hear about your dad, I’m glad he was okay.

 there is no other mention of "DLR" on the page

About seatbelt, it is simply better to always use it, not only when the car reminds you to do it  My parents "forced" me since the beginning to use it, now I cannot go in a car without using it.
If my father did not had that habit, he would not be there anymore...

Great story, I’m glad you shared it. I would have commented earlier but I guess I over looked it.
So your next car might be a VW? Kinda funny how you mentioned the brakes were touchy. Before trading my LC in on the ’06 Expo, the salesman let me take it out on road. The first thing I did was push the accelerator to the floor, the Expedition’s nose reared up and before I knew it I was going 70mph in a 55mph zone. I went to tap the brakes to slow down and nose dropped, and almost threw me into the steering wheel. :shy:

I also found out if you don’t put your seatbelt on in the Expedition, when you put the transmission in "Drive" it will worry the hell out of you until you do put your seatbelt on. It lets out a loud Panic Alarm until the seatbelt is fastened. :boggled:

BTW what’s DLR?

Yeah, I just got a confirmation from a VW guy that it is indeed a derivative of the old Audi I5.

Due to the low number of hp per litre (as I said above) it is not impossible that it is an old engine.
qwerty_86
I don't know about the engine, that's what the salesman told me. I thought it was a little weird that it was an old Audi I5. That TV commercial is funny. Whenever I see those harlequin models, I think of "I could make out out of junkyard parts." The Jetta TDIs seem to be selling like hotcakes here. I've been told that there is a waiting list and there's already like 100 people on it (several months wait I believe).
Hecubus
Is the VW I5 really related to the old Audi I5? That sounds a little far-fetched (or at the very least, tenuous).

Still, the new Rabbits look fairly nice to drive, although I'm not sure I'd be able to justify the extra expense over a Cobalt (well, it'd be easier for the Rabbit than the Jetta) - but I'm probably biased because I work around the things.
