Thanks, for all the info. I had originally thought the lights on the B-Pillar were something new they started.

Again, thanks

Thanks for the link Neptune! That sure is a nice looking Expedition

Ever since LEDs began to be used, I've noticed that many departments have gone "overboard" with LED lighting. That is, they'll put it wherever they can, in back of the grilles, on the mirrors, on the front/back dash, on the b-pillar, even on the bumpers. The smaller size of LEDs has made this possible. I did not begin to see the B-pillar placement become popular until about 2004 or so. However, I have seen that type of placement go back as far as at least 1997. I can remember seeing a Florida Highway Patrol 1997 Crown Vic with strobe lights on the B-pillar. That was done by the trooper himself, but this gives you an idea of how far back that type of placement goes. My department keeps it simple, though. For about 10 years, we used MX-7000 lightbars with strobe lights on the headlights. That was all, we have no slicktops. For the 2006 cars, we switched over to a Vista-lightbar type LED lightbar (very bright, I must say) in combination with the strobes up front. In my opinion, so many lights are not needed, but if it increases officer safety, then I'm all for it.

I found this and thought you might like to see it.

Now I have a question, when did they start putting lights on the B-Pillars? When the camera gets around to the side you see a LED bar that looks to be attached to the B-Pillar interior. They look cool, but I was just wondering if you might know when they started using them.
