Perhaps we should continue the discussion in the "car-sight"-thread here.

A friend from Luxemburg (he collects VW K 70 and Range Rover's) told me about discussions with Rover and the car-authority, because his Range Rover's from the 80ies have more than 500 kg less allowed towing-weight than the actual Defender-versions - which have the exact identical chassis and suspension.

There's a PDF of tow ratings by model here.

You still have not listed the most important towing capacities of all, the full size-Ford and Chevy SUVs...
Neptune
That depends on how heavy a weight they need to tow ...

I was quite surprised to find out that the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham (which is based off of the Buick Roadmaster, can tow up to 7,000 (US) lbs. That puts a few SUVs and trucks to shame)
taxiguy
Oh, sorry Neptune. I thought you were trying to prove me wrong about my comment saying the Roadmaster could tow as good as an SUV by posting those figures, I was just being a little defensive at all. I too am tired of the never-ending SUV dabate, and I promise I will not post anymore such comments. I will be try to keep my opinions to myself from now on, as it seems there is always someone who wan't to argue the other way and it can get nasty :ohwell:

But anyway back to the topic, in your opinion, do you think large RWD wagons like Caprice and Roadmaster are adequate for most peoples towing needs, as compared to most SUVs?
Neptune
I didn’t start this topic to debate SUVs. I am curious to know the towing capacity for cars, trucks, vans and SUVs (just personal vehicles in general – not vehicles like commercial trucks *Ford F-650 for example*) I would have liked to have known the towing capacity of the S-Class and its other sedans, but Mercedes doesn’t list that particular information. Niether does BMW ... :ohwell:

I would like it if you (or anyone else would leave SUV debating comments off of this topic) This thread is for learning.

Ok you know what, forget this whole thing, I wish I had never started this stupid argument with ahight in the first place. You guys can go ahead and have your big SUVs, what do I care? It's a free country after all, so why can't you block the view of traffic in back of you and use up the rest of the world's petroleum if that's what you really want? Be my guest, I'm movin' to Canada...

... And if you want towing power go out and find a RWD Buick Roadmaster wagon from the 90s (and yes I know that's not exactly "new" but most of them have very low miles and are in like-new condition since they were mostly owned by older people). These vehicles are just unessesary for almost everyone on Earth ...

The 1993-Onward Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham sedan had a available towing capacity of 7,000 lbs (US)
