The successor of the CLK was renamed as E-Class Coupé/Cabriolet, because it's based on the E-Class again, like then in the 90's (W124). The last two CLK generations W208 and W209 were technically related to the C-Classes W202 and W203. There were no 2-door versions of the E-Classes W210 and W211.

To avoid confusion? The CL is an S coupe, isn't it?
Of course, that's still confusing, because the SL isn't.

I do not know if a topic has already started with this subject but I'll post anyway. Some of you may know that the new 2010 Mercedes E-Class has been introduced. It won't reach the US until July or August. There is also word of a refreshened S-Class. My question is, with those changes, Why is the Mercedes CLK going to be renamed as E-Class coupe and why is the CL going to be renamed as the S-Class coupe? It was like that back in the 90's too, but why are they doing it again?
