2009 models have the Flex Fuel badge on the rear now, so already there is a 2006-2008 range and a 2009+ range. Any future 2009+ models that are listed will probably not have the VIN put in anymore by me as I will not know for sure which one it is. The same will go for any other cars for which we can't narrow down the year range specifically, even if we know it's a Police Interceptor. Either way I'll be on the lookout for these cars

Has anything cosmetic changed since 2006? Like the wheels or trim or something? Or would the year range for new ones still be 2006-2010 on the site?

I just found out that the VIN code changed for the Police Interceptor. It's no longer [P71] as of the 2010 model but [P7B]. Which is going to make identification on the site harder now :ohwell: I'm still trying to figure out of the VIN codes for other versions of the Crown Victoria have changed too.

Every Chrysler passenger car since 1960 are unibodies. Look how much abuse they took in the '60s and '70s. It's already a proven technology. It's FWD that's the problem here.

This might work:

Yeah right... that's not happening.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Ford Fusion Hybrid NYC Taxi (if they don’t have one already)

But I think Ford will maybe lean more toward the Transit Connect Taxi as a mass replacement for the Crown Victoria taxis. One has already been spied on NYC streets and later showed up at the auto show. The one in the link was boasted about at the New York International Auto Show.

There are even a few Malibu hybrids, though now that GM has discontinued that model they won't be showing up anymore.

Still, in NYC the CV still greatly outnumbers the hybrids. Fleets are hesitant to buy them because they cost so much more. And now that gas is cheap again and will be for the foreseeable future, there is less point to Hybrids than people originally thought a couple years ago when prices were nearly twice as much as they are now.

Many taxi drivers (lease-drivers, that is) don't like the Hybrid cabs either, because the fleets charge an extra premium to drive them over a regular Crown Vic or Toyota Sienna since the purchase price is more. Yes, the Hybrid cars don't need filling up as often, but it is debateable whether that cnacels out the extra cost to lease them.

Not to mention a FWD unitbody Camry or Altima is much less of a durbale workhorse than a tradtional big RWD body-on-frame Ford, which is certainly important when roaming the streets of NYC each and every day for over a quarter-million miles. Only time will tell how they stack up in the end....

I guess this would be for Taxiguy. I've always loved how iconic the yellow Crown Vic is in New York City. I've only been to Manhattan once but of course they're in so many movies. The taxis in my town are now mostly Scions which I hate. I wonder what will happen to New York taxis?

The Crown Victorias are already being substituted for a number of hybrid vehicles, including the Ford Escape, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry and Prius.

Some examples that I saw when I recently went to NYC:
