What about EU then? Even if the states in it are independent countries, for a lot of things they depend on the EU, they are not fully dependent.

I could add the US state flags if users want them. Though that in such case I would maybe make these as dual flag, country+state.
For now I don't see what is the harm with these few extra flags.
Also, for some things like in Football and other sports events, the UK countries are participating separately. So they have more visibility than some other "not independent" countries.

Personally I think it's better to just have one flag per "independent" country, less confusing that way. Imagine if we had a flag for each of the 50 US states...

"Independent country" is a difficult subject. For example we have Taiwan in the list though that it is not recognized by many countries

These regional flags were added mostly because these flags existed in the icon library I used
They are only available for user profiles and not as country for cars/movies, though.
The UK "parts" are prefixed with "United Kingdom / ", so it is quite explicit. For Québec maybe I should have put "Canada / " in front of it.

Northern Ireland is in the country list with its flag: https://www.imcdb.org/res/flags/ND.png

Some day I should do some cleanup and change the "SX" code I used for Scotland, since it should be used for Sint-Marteen. I should find some new unused code for Scotland, but I have to also batch-update every comment/profile that includes the flag.

If people are confused about some country (or non-country) names, they can simply search for these on internet and discover new things
MisterZ
Yes, but they're not *independent* countries. Also, Northern Ireland doesn't even have its own flag.

If it’s any consolation, I’ve never heard of Norfolk Island either.

At least England, Wales and Scotland are countries, that much I know.
MisterZ
I was wondering, why do we allow the flags of England, Wales, etc. next to usernames instead of the UK flag? I noticed Baube also has a flag of Quebec and not the Canadian flag. All these region-specific flags are confusing to most of us who have never seen them before.

Thanks

On the site you can use [flag=US], [flag=FR], etc. for example

Do you mean so they can be posted like this?
