I remember very well that this was played constantly on the radio in 1986 in Belgium, it's a parody of songs like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POv-3yIPSWc but no one got the satirical meaning and it went straight to number 1.
It's one of the songs, about everyone says, that such stuff is embarrassing, shameful, horrible, etc.pp, but the funny thing is, that on parties, everyone, when he's drunken enough, sings them along with the others - and more funny is, that everyone knows the song-texts.
