Neptune
As expected it’s based on the civilian 2011 Ford Explorer (U502)
Its has several upgrades over the civilian.
- Pursuit tuned suspension system (improved over the heavy-duty civilian suspension system)
- Pursuit tuned drivetrain system with performance shift algorithms for the 6-speed automatic transmission
- Column shifter, and driver (police officer) oriented interior
- Will be rated to survive a 75 mph (121 km/h) rear end crash while stationary.
- Provisions for extra tactical electronics, lights & equipment
- Heavy-duty alternator (220-amp output)
- Level III ballistic door panels
- Heavy-duty brake system
Ford says it will be off road capable like the civilian Explorer but will ad high-speed pursuit capability to complement the Police Interceptor Sedan (based on the 2010 Ford Taurus).

No word if Ford plans to export the PIU to other countries that will receive the civilian Explorer. I doubt it though.
