Indeed, very nice to show off your beautiful baby, walter :sol:

From where in Germany you got it? It seems, that the covered plate is a German export plate, with the expiring date on the red bar on the right.

Very nice Walter, it’s a beauty. Looks good for its age (has that timeless appearance) and well cared for. I’m sure you’ll pamper it even more than its previous owner.

You’ll like having that Torson torque biasing rear differential. In fact, Audi was the first mainstream car company to see the potential for such a device and put it to use in it’s all-wheel drive systems starting in 1986.
walter.
Thank you guys for the congrats

It's a 3.6 Exclusive version from 1989, coming from Germany. I'd say the conditions are very good: still, there are some works to do.

ingo did you even listen to me? Of course there are many first-generation Monteros out there but none with factory graphics and in gray and black with a custom antenna and rear spoiler WITH rugged tires. It's because it's all happening at once on one Montero.

The Audi V8 had two different permanent four-wheel drive systems.

Audi V8’s with the automatic transmission had a four-speed ZF 4HP24 automatic gearbox with integrated drive (transaxle), no transfer case.

The ZF gearbox’s integrated drive was one-speed single range and used a center differential with multi-disc clutch pack.

The rear differential used an American TORSEN (TORque SENsing) Type 1 torque biasing differential.

Audi V8’s with the manual gearbox used another TORSEN Type 1 differential for the center differential.

The fuel consumption will not become the biggest or most expensive problem. Real dramatic is the spare parts situation. Although it's looking like a pimped Audi 100 or 200, very many parts -especially the exclusive oily bits- were V8-unique. Which means
- not many made
- sometimes handmade, because meant for an exclusive premium cars
- with the appropriate prices for an exclusive premium car
- hard to get, because due the few cars and the high prices not many Audi-garages have stored them
- hard to get, because compared with Mercedes Benz and Porsche Audi was never engaged in the spare parts supply for older and rarer models

These warning you can read in any buyers guide article for the V8 and the freaks http://www.audiv8.com/ always state that explicity. This is indeed the reason, why the prices for the V8 are quite low and why often unexperienced newbie-fans are selling their V8's very soon again.

As walter is a long experienced Audi-nut, I'm sure, that he's aware all that topics.

Just 44 (15 licensed and 29 SORNed) left here ingo according to: http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/audi_v8_auto ). That surprised me as until recently I wasn't aware that they were offered here and I've never seen one in the metal. I imagine there were never more than 200 on the road in the UK. Much less common than similar 7-Series, S-Class and Jaguar XJs.

I do wonder if Walter has struck oil in his back garden if he is to afford such a thirsty car though.

There isn't anything really that's stands out about this Audi compared to other models like it.

Well, it was the first post-WWII 8-cylinder of the Audi NSU Auto Union company, the first premium class limousine (this term used in the German meaning, not the American) with permanent four wheel drive and was with only 21.000 made made alwys a rarity.
I'm very sure, that you never ever have seen one in the real life - while of the Montero and its plenty of badge-egineered derivates is to find all over the world in hundreds of thousands numbers. Plus the fact, that it's nothing more than one of the several primitive truck-technology based offroaders.

Before becoming off-topic again: maybe our experts can check at howmanyleft.co.uk about the survivors in the UK.
In Germany 1733 were left in 2010 http://www.razyboard.com/system/morethread-zulassungszahlen-audi-v8-quattro20v-1637460-6066748-0.html
