That should be on a different thread since it's a different market

Since you started with the Camrys that have been made in the US since Toyota started building plants in the US, could you also include those made in Australia as well?

Or should we just leave that for another thread?

Thanks for the update, they say late-2021, so it sounds like the 2022 model year.

Toyota Truck/Tacoma

All Toyota pickups were made in Japan until 1991.

Toyota started production in December 1991 of pickups at the NUMMI plant for the 1992 model year. Toyota sold both US and Japan-made Trucks until the model was replaced by the Tacoma.

From 1995-2001, all Tacomas were made in the US.

In 2002, Toyota added production of the Tacoma in Mexico, and both US and Mexican made Tacomas have been sold since then. Production at NUMMI was transferred to Texas in 2011.

So the only ones with "Made in USA" tags should be 1995-2001 Tacomas.

Starting in 2021, they will all be Mexican-assembled.

Honda CR-V

Honda made all CR-V from 1997-2006 in Japan.

In September 2006, production started in East Liberty Ohio for the 2007 model year. From 2007-2012, Honda continued to sell both US and Japan-made CR-Vs in the US. 2007-2008 were mainly Japan-made, 2009-2012 mainly US-made. They started production in Ontario in 2012. By 2013, they stopped Japan imports, and all 2013+ are made in either Ohio or Ontario. Honda does not provide a breakdown.

Honda also sold UK-made CR-Vs from 2002-2006 and Mexican-made CR-Vs from 2008-present.

So without a VIN, you can't really tell where individual CR-Vs are made.

So updating the CR-V for the latest generation [RW]:

Checking 2017-2019 VINs on salvage vehicles at easyexport.us, I have found Ohio-made CRVs (VIN starts with 5), Indiana-made CRVs (VIN starts with 7), Japanesse-made CRVs (VIN starts with J) and Onatrio-made CRVs (VIN starts with 2).

Sample VINs:
5J6-RW5H3-9HL-
2HK-RW2H5-5KH-
JHL-RW2H5-9KX-
2HK-RW2H8-1JH
5J6-RW2H8-3KL-
7FA-RW2H5-XJE-

So this generation is another one where "Built in" cannot be determined on US models, so that should be left blank.

Toyota RAV4

For the first two generations, the US market RAV4's were all made in Japan.

  1. 1995-2000 [XA10]
    2001-2005 [XA20]

For the third and forth generations, a Canadian plant was opened in Woodstock, Ontario starting with the 2009 model year, but sales have been so strong, that imports from Japan continued as well. For instance, Toyota sold over 352,000 RAV4 for the 2016 calendar year, but of that total, only 187,000 are listed as North American built, which means that 165,000 were imported from Japan for sale in the USA.

USA RAV4's for these generations could be made in either Canada or Japan:
  1. 2006-2012 [XA30]
    2013-present [XA40]

Hyundai Sonata

When the Sonata started sales in the US for 1989, they built a plant in Quebec, as they expected sales to boom. So 1989 Sonatas were built in South Korea. The plant opened in 1990, and about 2/3 of 1990 Sonata sales were made there, the rest in Korea. For 1991 most were made in Quebec, and by 1992-93 they were all Quebec cars. Sales were slow, so they closed the plant in Quebec down in 1994.

Bromont's plant closed in 1993, despite what Wikipedia says

Can that be proved or is it just lure?

Everywhere east of the Rockies got the US-made (Ohio) Honda Accords from 1984-85. West of the Rockies, we all got the imported ones from Japan. This can be verified by checking the VIN of said vehicle (imports had a "J" at the beginning, like my '84 Accord does).

Honda Accord

Honda opened it's first US plant in 1983 to build the Accord. The SY Accords were split pretty evenly between the US and Japan-made models.
