The Forester is no different than a Honda CR-V or a Toyota RAV4, and we don't have debates about those.

The AMC Eagle wa essentially an AMC Hornet Wagon with 4 wheel drive, while the Forester was an individual design. For comparison, the Outback is a 4 wheel drive Legacy Wagon with a bunch of extra plastics. I always looked upon the Forester as a small SUV, I never understood the "wagon" categorisation at all.

My own personal opinion would be wagon . My mom's boyfriend had a 1998 and compared to the other SUV he had, its nothing else than a 4WD wagon to me ( if a Forester is a SUV how should we call an AMC Eagle ? .. )
But since Subaru begs the automobile world to consider it as a SUV from the beginning and for consistency, maybe it would be better to call it SUV

Agreed, they should all be listed as SUV.

Why are most Foresters (especially 1st/2nd gen) on the site listed as "wagons" instead of SUV? Only some are listed as SUV. Wikipedia describes the Forester as an SUV: "The Subaru Forester is a compact crossover SUV (sport utility vehicle) manufactured since 1997 by Subaru." I think they should all be changed to SUV?
