A guy with a perfect 1974 VW Golf I had problems with the registration-authority in a German town - they denied to give him a "H-plate" (for historic car, over 30 years old). Their reason (pute harrassment): "A VW Golf is just a cheap, junky all-day-car, which never ever will get a classic status"
What an impudence, if you think about the fact, that at that time (2 or 3 years ago) there were only 3 (THREE!) 1974'Golf I officially registrated in Germany.
If owners of Porsche 356, Mercedes Pagoda's, Jaguar XK and so on are niggling about low-cost-all-day-cars ("butter-and-bread-car" we say in German) on classic-car-meetings, just reply: "When you've seen the last time a Audi 60? Or a Renault 6? How many Austin Maxi you've seen in the last 20 years? And Opel Rekord C vans? Or Fiat Ritmo's? Talbot Solara's?
I've reached sometimes, that these guys were thinking about that and have agreed: "Uuh, I cannot remember. too long ago".
