@Ingo: off topic, but do you still cross into Holland to shop? I remember back in the late 60s, before the EU sorted out food prices, not only Germans from the Ruhrgebiet but also British forces wives from Mönchen Gladbach used to flock to Venlo on Saturday mornings to do the weekly shop (our hotel was on the way into town from the Keulse Barrière border crossing). Registrations from Essen, D-dorf, Neuss, Köln ...
I bought some biscuits at the Twee Gebroeders van Venlo supermarket and mentioned this to the guy on the checkout. 'Did you notice?' he said with a big smile. 'The prices in D-Marks are about a third higher than the guilder prices. The British, of course, we charge the guilder price whatever they pay with.'
