I was going to post this on another thread, but I couldn't find one that was appropriate;
From the 1960s into 1980, the Long Island Rail Road had an additional bus system called the "Road & Rail" buses designed to take commuters to train stations from places where the railroad didn't go, or from when lines were being rebuilt, or threatened with abandonment.
