And this, on the Beltway. I... I never would have thought this was possible:

Mercedes-Benz SL500 [R129], Little Guy trailer, motorcycle. All you'd ever need, I suppose.

Most of the travel trailers I see that tow other trailers are fifth wheelers, and they're usually bigger than the trailers they tow.
...

No, that's all fine. According the information, I've found in the SL-forum, the R129 is allowed to tow 1550 kg.
These two trailers are far away from that weight. I think, it not even 800kg in total, so even a VW Golf would be allowed for that.

Despite the fact, that such would be illegal in Germany (for a trailer with more than axle or a double axle with max.99 cm distance you need a truck driving license), even my K 70 (1200 kg are allowed) could do that.

The question of the allowed or possible towing capacity has not much to do with the size of the car. Generally Convertibles can tow higher weights than the Sedan/Coupé/Wagon-version of the same car. This is caused by the fact, that convertibles have a stronger body-platform.

For example a Golf I Convertible is allowed to tow 1400kg - and a Fiat Ritmo Cabriolet, too! :wam: , but the closed versions of Golf I and Ritmo only 900 or 1000kg.

But about this topic there is a lot of chaos and irritation in the world. So my luxemburgish friend, who collects first gen Range Rover is very upset, because it's not possible to upgrade the towing weight to that of the 1990er Landrover Discovery - despite both models have an absolute identical chassis.
