I had to get new tags for it, I noticed that the new North Carolina tags all have red letters and numbers now. They use to be blue, except the "weighed" tags.

I hate the new tags. My pickup has WWF..so I can't think of my truck without thinking of wrestling. Then my wagon was WZR...so when i see my wagon i keep thinking about peeing.

I think the blue tags were so much easier to read.

I'm confused what the tags mean? I don't think we have them here in Michigan...

I really don't see the point in getting a new car that often, even if you can afford it.

For one thing doesn't it cost more in the long run to change cars every few years than if you keep a car for a good 10 years or more and run it into the ground? Don't cars depreciate quickest in the first few years?

They depreciate thousand of dollars as you drive them off the lot! It's horribly uneconmical to buy a brand new car, which is why when I'm old enough to get my car I'm only going to buy cars that are at least a few months, maybe a year old. But I really don't plan on buying a car that new anyway, since I'll be good just cruising in my 1997 Crown Victoria :sol:

Wow that's a big trailer...

In Belgium you can't even drive that with a regular licence

It is like these Class-A motorhomes which are bus-based I guess.

Here (for North Carolina, I’m not sure for other states) a standard Class C driver’s license will suffice for standard towing. Its only if the vehicle itself exceeds like 26,000 lbs do you need to step up to a Class B driver’s license to drive the vehicle. There is also a Class A license and then CDL.

Most pickup trucks do however require a "Weighted" tag or if they get stopped by the NC-DMV they will receive a hefty fine if not worse. I don’t have a weighted tag, just the standard personal tag issued for use. SUVs are exempt from weighted tags.

When would anyone other than a semi-truck driver ever tow something in excess of 26,000 pounds??

Not for towing, that’s the GVWR for the vehicle not the trailer.

Well what vehicle weighs that much anyhow?
Certainly not even the largest Hummer weighs that much?

The Ford F-750 Super Duty medium-duty trucks have a curb weight of around 30,000 lbs

So in North Carolina I could not drive a F-750.

The paintwork is indeed original (the bumpers were changed during the years, the alloys and the tow-bar were added by me), which is very rare for a Volkswagen of the 70ies (one ugly rust-part, under the A-pillar, is not visible from outside).
For many years, from the first release in 1955, up to the late 70ies, VW had big problems with the quality of their metallic paintworks. They lost the brightness and were getting matt in the sun, even up to becoming a white powder.
Mine is getting blind, too. Even the fact, that it's a garage-car and was a garage car at the previous first owner, doesn't help. When it had started once, it will continue. You can see, how the coats of laquer are decaying.

My first own car. I'd been randomly at thois location. It was on the way to the International NSU-meeting in Switzerland in 1992. I drove a little across Belgium. I wanted to pass 5 countries in one day, so I went to Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg and France, back to Germany and the following day to Switzerland.
It was totally surprising, I drove on a Belgian country road, relaxed and unaware, but suddenly I got a shock "Where the hell are you? How was it possible??" I didn't know, that the racing circuit in Spa was used as a regular road, outside the season.

After I had a crash with it, I had this. Unfortunately only for one summer, until the engine was blasted.
It ws the car, I had the most fun with driving it  Every, absolutely every cop has stopped and controlled me!

The one and only pic, I've made of its successor, I had for one year and 30.000 km:

For pics of some others of my cars, I must look. I've only made albums until summer 1995, the following photos are stuill waiting for it...

I'm pleased to say that, after being lumbered with my mother's Ford Ka upon passing my test 4 years ago, I managed to get a job at the start of the year and wasted no time in acquiring my own car:

It's 21 years old and it has seen a lot of road, but it's still reliable enough to take me anywhere I want to go.

Hello to everyone. I ride these five vehicles :
This is my classic car, I own it since 1993. It's a 1984 Renault Fuego Turbo. Now it has traveled about 160,000 km, and it was mid-restored in 2006, when it was also completely repainted. It was the star of a detailed article on the Italian magazine Ruoteclassiche, October 2007 issue. The French plates you can see in the second pic are fake: my Fuego traveling on the road with Italian plates, but I wanted to play with French plates such as the Fuego Turbo was introduced in the 1983 official Renault press image. Of course, the fake French plates are used when the car is display at meetings.

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/8456/fuegomix.jpg

This is my "little cherry". It's a 1991 Mazda 121 1.3i 16v LX Canvas Top. The previous owner wanted to scrap this car, but I could not resist and I had to save this nice small car. To date I have personally had good care of its, and I bought the alloy rims same as the MX-5. It has come to date 126,000 Km, and it will become soon a classic car.

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1304/mazdamix.jpg

This is my daily driver, it is a 2006 Dacia Logan 1.4 MPI Laureate. Between all the vehicles I own, this is the only one parked on the road every day. It has traveled far 67,000 km without failure.

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4450/dacia1.jpg

These are my two motorcycles. They are a 2009 Kawasaki GTR 1400 and a 2005 Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM. I am a motorbike touring enthusiast, I use the Kawasaki to travel out of the city and during the holidays, while the Suzuki takes me to the workplace every day. The Kawasaki has traveled 35,000 km to date, the Suzuki has traveled 12,000 km to date.

http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/7391/motomix.jpg

I dream of owning a 1984 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, a 1969 Dodge Charger R / T, or a 1984 Renault 25 V6 Injection. Unfortunately the first two I mentioned have achieved commercial prices are too high for my economic availability.
