The movie "Elevator to the Gallows" has a Mercedes 300SL Gull Wing coupe. I just turned the TV on a saw it but didn't have time to get a picture.

Just like fishing, you know how that old saying goes: "The big one that got away" ...

Well I searched for the USA title and didn't find anything but later found that its already listed. The original title is "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud". http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=51378

It appears that Bebert had already got the fish I was after  Hooray for Bebert

Which brings up a search point: I wonder if there is a way to search for a movie if all you know is an alternate title?

Edit:

Search is funny. If you search for 'elevator to the gallows' it finds nothing but if you just search for 'elevator' it finds the movie. :ohwell: Lesson: don't use too many words in search - one will do

It is listed as "Elevator to the Scaffold" as alternative title. Indeed searching on partial title is usually better, especially when there are small words ("the", "and"/"&", or dashes and things like that).
I'll add the other title too.
In the future I'll maybe just have a list of alternative titles like IMDB does rather than having on US/UK and one FR title in addition to the original title.

Yes that would be good, in imdb you enter a title and eventhough you have typed it wrongly it comes up with something, sometimes it even comes with the title you are looking for, why does that not happen in our search box?

IMDB search engine is a near-perfect engine for titles, indeed it works very well. They probably worked hard to make that.
It cannot (time, capabilities and what our server allows to do) do as good as they did, but I can add a feature to have "similar" matches (instead of current "exact" matches).
I already made few tests, I just have to find time to integrate that in the site.
Downsides are:
- made for English terms, so results will not be so good for non-English titles
- skips short words (less than 4 letters I think)
So I have to combine it with current system, not just replace it.

Hmm i see, indeed theirs works very well, what i like the most of his searchign system is he fact that i can even look for a foreing movie (Sound of Music aka La Melodie De Bonheur aka Sonrisas y Lágrimas) with the spanish title if i dont know the english one, that would be great to do in imcdb, but i comprehend you are not allowed to do it so perfectly :ohwell:

Do a Spanish title search on IMCDB is easy: we just need to enter all the Spanish titles
Currently that only exists for English and French titles.
Some day I'll replace "UK/US title" and "FR title" fields by a list of "Alternate titles", then you will be able to add all the Spanish titles if you wish

That would be great indeed, there are already some cases such as Face Of Terror or Art Heist, but not too many shamely, hope youll be able to do this soon i see this as a useful thing that needs to be fixed, also to make the browser more sensible, as you could see that user that came the other day couldnt find that muppets movie and im sure lot of people have the same problem as well.

Anyway i hope you have free time soon to do it.

Do you remember that field we talked about few time ago? the chases one  , is it still on your to do list or you have forgotten about it  ?

I have also notice the search is better with fewer words ... (but I think almost all search engines are like that)
