They will have explained their reasoning in the book.

47 Cadillac STS

I imagine they're talking about the 1990s Cadillac Seville STS, which was briefly sold in the UK and didn't do too well.

1 Volkswagen Beetle

Now is that the new Beetle or the old Beetle?

Lots of nice cars in these lists :oh:

You would say that  (although I think putting the Jaguar XJ40 in was a bit harsh)

In the "50 worst" list some of them are specific models, like with the Saab 9-3 Viggen Cabrio for example, they've singled out a particular model rather than the whole 9-3 range.

Asyou can suggest, I don'thave this book.

Well neither do I, but if we ask Sandie nicely (and he's not busy) he might give us some extracts from the book.

12 FSO Polenez
5 Lada Riva

Nightrider, do you really not think these are crap cars?

Being a 2105 owner, I must admit, that it isn't. As far as you consider it as workhorse and don't expect luxury goods, alot of power etc etc.
Of course it's 30-years old model and even older design....

The Beetle was the original model. The demolition job was pretty funny.

'For some reason beardy peacenicks and straggly-haired surfer dudes love the Beetle thinking it cool and alternative. Which is fine, although it does rather overlook the fact that it is clearly bollocks. What we have here is a dismal germanic car with its engine in the wrong place and a list of built-in faults so long it could fill every page in this book... It's slow, it's noisy, it's uncomfortable and it has such a completely pathetic heater that on cold days you are better off setting fire to your hair. The Beetle doesn't make you cool and alternative at all - it simply marks you out as the kind of mush-brained tit who knows nothing about cars and gives names to inanimate objects.

The MG B is on the list because it is technologically unsophisticated and is driven by boring people.

No, the two lists are full of cars that were experimental but bad ideas. Like the VW Polo Harlequin http://majorgav.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/vw-polo-harlequin.jpg "Looks, as a result, like one of those bangers that's been repaired using randomly painted panel collected from write-offs during a rummage around at a local scrapyard. Apparently aimed at the cluelessly, self-consciously wacky buyer."

Better than 1111. Better than 2105 of 90s vintage.)

Well, extraction clearly shows authors attitude. "Germanic" sounds somewhat nationalistic. "Engine in the wrong place" sounds шgnorant. "It's slow" - what dis you expect - 200MPH car?

Where's the need for anyone to notice these reasonings and opinions? For who the f.ck it's important in any way?

It's terrifying to see, which IMCDB-members are involved in this thread. Sorry, but it's possible to feel offended, when I point out my (still known) opinion about the audience of this shit. The opinion won't be changing, just because some honourable IMCDB-ists are participating to it now.

Naah, BBC itself is not that bad. In fact they are making the best documentations of all TV-companies worldwide. My wife and me really like to see them.

So it's indeed a question, why the "Old Aunt" let such shit farting out. Under their name and by their stations. Very odd. Totally diametral to their common standard and reputation.

It's meant to be slightly humourous. I don't know exactly if he meant to use the term "Germanic" like it was a bad thing, he might have only intended to say that it is German, but after all this was the car originally dreamt up by Hitler to be the "people's car". Even if he did mean it in a slightly xenophobic way, this would not be unacceptable in Britain and a lot of people are still amused by this kind of humour (as long as it's relatively harmless)

At the end of the day, it's an opinion. The Beetle is a cult car and I think the author is just rebelling against this because he doesn't buy into its cult appeal enough to overlook its flaws. I think he gives a fair explanation for why he dislikes it (noisy, uncomfortable and faulty), when he says it's slow that may be a fair comment because this car stayed around for years and it's lack of speed probably became more and more obvious and as newer cars came along. People don't usually want a car to be slow and unable to keep up with the rest of the traffic.

When he says the engine's in the wrong place, that is a joke, he really means he thinks the design is awkward.
