We list the Ikon as origin India. Ford opened a factory near Chennai in 1996, but I don't think they have or had any design or engineering facilities in that country. I would guess the Ikon is mainly a product of Ford Germany.

This 1999 news article quotes Ford India's Managing Director saying "It is designed and engineered in Germany and the United Kingdom but will be built in India."

It was originally made for the Indian market, but indeed not especially engineered there.

To me they should be listed as German.
It is mostly Ingo who insisted for listing them as "not German origin".
