"Touristic" Licence plate
Published 04/07/2016 @ 22:36:34, By night cub
I think it would depend on how the state issues license plates. When I lived in Pennsylvania, the plates are assigned to the owner, so if you were to replace your car, you could keep the same plate for the new one (though it's generally easier to get a new plate). In states like California, the plate is assigned to the car, so when you sell the car, the plate goes with it. Not sure how Georgia operates, but if they assign to the owner, Carfax may not be able to capture that data, as it would be constantly changing.

eLMeR said something about the red plates being a temporary registration on the previous page
Thanks Baube. I did think it had came up before somewhere on here, even started to worry I asked about one before. At least it wasn't that.
As I've said before I see a lot of "touristic" plates, mostly from Germany, Netherlands and Belgium (I don't post these as I see so many) I guess because of the ferry routes (Zebrugge to Rosyth, Newcastle to Amsterdam). Saw a less usual one today (but didn't get a pic as it was raining badly and I was in a hurry) which was a late 147 on a Spanish plate. Not sure why you'd go from Spain to Scotland...

1999-2002 Mercedes SL 500 from Georgia . Does the special license make them disappear from the listings ? couldn't find the exact year on Carfax as it doesn't give any results...
It is long way from my area Looks like it has the green border monthly sticker on the lower right corner, which means that it will expired on January 2017.

Not only that, but it is also cheaper to have the plate transfer from an old car to the new car.
The last couple of years, the State of Georgia has been reissuing new set of alphanumeric plates which I got that a couple of years ago. My mother's van still have the original plate that dates back to the late 1990s. That plate has been changed hand at least two, maybe three different vehicles.

In Germany we have now the option to keep our number plate, even if we change the federal state. However i didn't want to appear as a tourist in my new city, so i changed my licence plate.
And by doing that, i also chose a personal licence plate, mirroring my name and my birth year.

Polish Golf (and one of my fingers because I was distracted by my phone going off whilst taking the picture ) in similar spot to the French plated 208:
Is "Rabbit" a local special edition or some sticker added by owner because of the name on older (and newer) US market ones?

On Friday i saw a rare "BW"-number plate. This does neither mean Bundeswehr (german military, they use the letter Y) nor Baden-Württemberg (their police have BWL). I was also confused because the car didnt look military. So i googled it and found out that it is reserved for marine management companies. It also had the WISAG company logo.
Here is a sample image so that you know how it looks. I didnt take it so only the link:

BW number plate is very rare, as most marine companies use ordinary plates.

Quite likely it's an Austrian version. Over there the name "Rabbit" was used for some versions of the Golf I and from the Golf III onwards.

Naah, it's not too rare, as this authority

is responsible for the whole infrastructure of all navigable canals and rivers in Germany.

Now a rare sight from yesterday, spotted on the Autobahn A40 in Dortmund - if I'm not wrong, it's from

I have never seen "BW" before, or it is so long ago that i cannot remember.
But i noticed that i might have mixed it up. The company logo was not WISAG but WSV. They have those paint schemes i have seen:

Also Belgium : http://aebergon.perso.neuf.fr/VW/page_VW_Golf_Base_Rabbit_2003.htm
And it's got the same silver on black "Rabbit" logo (contrary to what the link shows).

I'm not really interested in French plates (I see a lot of French tourists in these summer months) but this looked classy on the older type of plate:

Camrys of this shape were never sold here so was surprised to see one with a Guernsey numberplate, looks like a private hire plate too. I hope it's not all the way up here on a fare:

Hello, guys! I recently bought a Minnesota license plate on vintage cars exhibition in Kiev (Old Car Land 2016). I wonder, this is a real plate or not. And if it's real, then I would like to know the history of this license plate. On what car it was?
