Is there a way to confirm if a car with a specific VIN was used as a background car in a movie? I bought one and was told it may have been used in a movie.

I've identified some IMCDb vehicles via auction sites that list VINs and projects they were in. Have you tried doing a search for the VIN?

Here's one I identified from an auction listing.

The car is a Ford Mustang Fast Back 1969 shaker hood. Allegedly in movie Jack Reacher. If there are VIN sites I can plug into to see if it was on the set then I'd appreciate it. I'll check out the one from Skywatcher68.
