Technical problems...help
Published 24/08/2006 @ 22:13:21, By Raul1983
This is what I usually do when I prepare pictures for IMCDB:

I have a movie saved on my computer and I open it in Quick Player. When I see a car I stop the picture and press "printscreen" key and copy the still image to empty word page. Then I copy the picture from Word to Paint so that I can save it in jpg format. This has worked so far. But today when I copied a picture to Paint I noticed the quality was not nearly as good as in the original still image. I tried every trick I know but nothing helped. There must be another way of doing this.

Is it possible to save pictures from Word-file (I mean not the whole file, just the picture) ?

What's the best way to convert mpg still images to jpg ?

Using Word is probably the most strange system  Why not paste them directly in an image program ?

To do the captures I use Media Player Classic, I save to BMP.
Then with Paint Shop Pro I cut black borders and resize picture if needed, and then I convert to JPEG. There are also freeware programs that can do that.

Is Media Player Classic free ?

Can you recommend a good image program ?

Can you do that also with the normal paint that comes with the win package? (haven't tried yet)

Yes, but I am not sure that it is easy to resize picture to the good aspect ratio if needed.
And as you can't select the compression ratio, it is a little annoying.

Few good free image programs :

Paint Shop Pro X has one thing missing compared to the 9 (that I use) : they removed the "automatic contrast enhancement", and aded a "clarify" feature that does not work as good as the old one for dark movie captures

I use Brightness/Contrast adjustment personally. Most of the time I'm not very satisfied with the automatic corrections.
