Fourth geneneration Subaru Impreza and XV/Crosstrek
Published 03/02/2024 @ 23:09:43, By hachirokutrueno
The following information will help identify chassis codes for the 2011-2016 Subaru Impreza and 2012-2017 Subaru XV/XV Crosstrek/Crosstrek.

I excluded the Subaru XV 2.0D diesel from this list because there isn't sufficient information online about the chassis code for that model. If anyone can find any information, it would be appreciated! (Update: Chassis code has been found!)

Hatchbacks:
GP2 - 1.6L FB16, FWD
GP3 - 1.6L FB16, AWD
GP6 - 2.0L FB20B, FWD
GP7 - 2.0L FB20B, AWD
GPE - 2.0L FB20X, AWD Hybrid
GPD - 2.0L EE20, AWD Diesel

Sedans:
GJ2 - 1.6L FB16, FWD
GJ3 - 1.6L FB16, AWD
GJ6 - 2.0L FB20B, FWD
GJ7 - 2.0L FB20B, AWD

Fourth geneneration Subaru Impreza and XV/Crosstrek

I’m not sure how Subaru codes work but I searched the VIN of a 2012 XV 2.0 diesel (Italian market) and it is JF1GPDLZ3CG018538. So should the code be GPD? I searched a XV 2.0 AWD too and it has GP7 in the VIN.

Yes, all 2.0L gasoline AWD models (regardless of Impreza or XV/Crosstrek) should be GP7. Japanese-market Impreza hatchbacks and XVs will display GP7 in the VIN, as cars built and sold in Japan don't follow the VIN format that is used outside of Japan.

As for the diesel XV, I don't think the VIN necessarily reflects the actual chassis code, as my personal 2017 Crosstrek's VIN contains GPA, while its build plate states GP7 as the chassis code. Can you try and find the build plate of the diesel model? It should look something like the photo below.

Update: I just ran a VIN for a UK spec XV 2.0D, and the body model does in fact come back as GPD. I compared it with the body model of my own U.S. spec Crosstrek from its VIN to confirm.

Here is the XV 2.0D:

And here is my own Crosstrek:
