Top 100 Cars
Published 25/02/2006 @ 04:11:29, By stronghold
When I first added "Jeremy Clarkson's Top 100 Cars" to the IMCDB ... there was some interest in what "our" Top 100 cars would be.
I don't know how this is going to work or how antp wishes to run this poll.? ..anyway ..here goes ..
I've spent some time deciding and chosen cars which I personally like (unlike clarkson ..who put cars in his top 100 because they sold well ..or his mum drove one ..but he didn't like them.!)...and I believe this is my choices (..for now.! ...hopefully 100 cars here.!) Some cars you'll probably laugh at (ie: Mustang II cobra ...known for being pretty useless really ... but I've always liked it's looks ...so thats what i'm going on.!)...the majority of my cars are V8 Muscle or Supercars.! (can you imagine how much this garage full of cars would cost.!!)

Top 100 Cars
Published 26/02/2006 @ 04:44:35, By wrenchhead
That is a pretty good list. My favorites are generally older with unique styling or features. I would take out most of the muscle cars. I won't name a hundred but some of my favorites are:

1929 Bugatti Type 41 Coupe de Ville
Aston Martin DBR1
Aston Martin Series II Le Mans
Jaguar SS100
Jaguar XK120 fixed head coupe
Jaguar Mk I
Mercedes SSK
Mercedes 540K
Mercedes 300SL coupe
BMW 507
Early Volvo P1800 (Jensen)
Volvo C70 Coupe
1984 Toyota Cressida
Jensen CV8
Alfa Romeo 2600 spyder
Bentley 4.5L supercharged
Bugatti Royale
1937 Packard V12 Convertible-coupe
1930's Citroen Traction Avant Roadster
Horch Type 670 (V12)
Morgan Plus 4
1957 Buick Century Convertible
and believe it or not:
Fiat 500 Jolly - I would love to have one of those funny little cars for nice summer days just to putt-putt around in.

Well, simply because I owned one and drove it for 100K miles. Big double overhead cam 6 cylinder, Fuel injection, 4 speed tranny, 4 wheel independent suspension,
It was good looking, confortable, fast and handled like a sports car. In fact, it would outperform many of the other cars on my list.

Its the same thing for the Volvo C70 - I currently have about 60K miles on it and its a super car.

I am lucky to have owned several of my favorite cars.

By the way, I have nothing against muscle cars. It is just that I grew up with them and prefer something that will go around a curve with a little grace. I had a mustang in my youth and if you were not careful with the throttle you found the rear end wanting to go first.

Stronghold,

How can you have the Zimmer Quicksilver but not the Stutz Blackhawk? Also check the 1966 Duesenburg prototype.

Anonymous,
..it's all to do with personal taste.! (I prefer the shape/design of the Zimmer)
As said at the top of the page ..I put the Mustang II cobra in my top 100 ...just for the look of it (..not because it's the best Mustang ... it's far from it.!)...All later Mustangs can blow the cobra II off the road ... but they don't have the same look.! (I like the Fake power bulges, scoops, spoilers, stripes, louvered rear window etc..)

Interesting to see your lists. I have started to compile mine, slightly renamed to 'Top 100+' and probably 'vehicles' would fit better than 'cars'.

As most on my list are rather unusual and have not yet turned up in a film, I will add pictures -- but this has to wait until after the CeBIT fair.

I am about the same age as your (stronghold) dad and I think his list is great. You need to show him a pic of a 1929 Bugatti Type 41 Coupe de Ville. It will get his blood flowing - it did mine

fyi: i talked to George Barris at a "World of Wheels" show a few years ago, and the "car" featured in the movie "The Car" started life as a Lincoln Mark III.

It took quite a while, but finaly the beta version is online

You can find my Top100+ list here:
http://www.tempo-land-rover.de/Top100+.html

I added pictures as my taste is not exactly mainstream ... included are about a dozen marques and three quarter of the models that haven't jet turned up at IMCDb.

The list isn't finished, so come back regularly.
