That is quite hot. I would be dying right now if I were you. A good way to beat the heat when you don't have A/C is to hang around at an air conditioned public place, like Wal-Mart or the movies or something.

Its normal for those of us here in southern North Carolina to endure 98 degrees Fahrenheit summer days with a heat index in-excess of 100. Currently the weather hasn’t been so bad though, the temperature highs for the past several days have been around the upper 80s. The weather here in Wilmington, NC is Semi-Tropical. We are just far enough down south that Elephant, Banana, Pineapple and Palm trees will grow. Further up north they are harder to sustain.

Here are a few car photos I have taken over the past months. Quality isn't that great because I was using a cell phone.

My absolute favorite of the show, 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme   (though it is not old enough or rare enough to be considered truly "classic", it is still quite a beauty  )

Nice selection of cars (love the ’57 Chevy)

@ the modern engine covers – I have a certain disliking for them as well. All they do is try to make the engine compartment seem more organized and hide the "ugly mechanical" components from naive consumers. Women and clueless men love them (as they make the engine look pretty) I prefer engine compartments without them. Ford put those silly covers on the 2007 Expeditions, but left them off for the ’08 model year. So mine doesn’t have one, thank goodness. I would have taken it off if it did ...

This morning I've passed four dead guys, which have been killed just seconds before I passed the Autobahn in the other direction - but I haven't noticed anything of that crash:
http://www.ruhrnachrichten.de/lokales/kirchhellen/dnki/art4249,338002
Later my wife has informed me. She was just 10 minutes behind me and had seen the first police car arriving.

It may sounds harsh, but I only can say, that it's the guy's own fault.

Shortly translated: A VW Multivan from Poland had crashed in the side of a vegetable-oil-tank-truck. The Polish guys have been hurt a bit, Multivan and truck have blocaded both lanes. Annother car stopped behind the Multivan, with hazard-lights on. Annother truck stopped -with hazard-lights, too- on the emergency lane on the right.
Then came an Audi A6 with very high speed, which driver saw the accident too late. He couldn't stop, so he tried to pass the cars on the emergency-lane - and crashed with still high speed into the parking truck.
The hammer of that story: in the Audi were sitting six(!) guys, noone had a seatbelt on!! Four of the six were killed immediatley, the two others are heavily injured.

Those are some sweet pics. My best friend's step dad has the last Oldsmobile 442 to roll off the assembly line. I also got a photo of a 56-58 Ford Parklane.
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/6194/parklanepe6.th.jpg
I also saw on the expensive used car lot today a Viper SRT-10. Beautiful car. And rare too considering it's an American car and I live in...America.
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/7453/viperth9.th.jpg
Behind it there is a Rolls Royce but I couldn't get a pic of that. And on the highway the other day I saw one of these:
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?make=Aston Martin&model=V8 Vantage&state=new
Just a fantastic car.
And after looking at these photos I now know I need a better cellphone.

Taxiguy, cool cars. I know you had a blast at the event. I like the rose-colored 57 Bel Air, don't see too many in original colors like that (as opposed to more generally-understood "Fifties" colours of pink, turquoise, light blue, red, black, or white). The yellow Impala is a '60 as seen by the straightened planes of the tail fins and the round tail lamps. The red Impala is a '65 judging from the tail lamps which are partly exposed to the top of the rear deck.

Went out car hunting today, got a few things I was looking for;
"Chrysler" Intrepid. I wanted a second generation one, but this is the only one I found parked.
http://img237.imagevenue.com/loc515/th_47153_Chrysler_Intrepid_MkI_red_front_122_515lo.JPG
http://img173.imagevenue.com/loc1196/th_47155_Chrysler_Intrepid_MkI_red_rear_122_1196lo.JPG

Corolla Taxi. I would have got closer, but the driver was asleep inside.
These are the most common taxis around here, the second most common are American minivans (mostly Caravans). There used to be a lot of FWD Impalas and Malibus, but they seem to have been fazed out.
http://img216.imagevenue.com/loc119/th_47156_Corolla_MkIX_taxi_Rhombus_122_119lo.JPG
More stuff for taxiguy. I thought this car looked sort of unusual, there's no light strip along the bottom edge of the trunk lid, and no trim along the sides.
http://img13.imagevenue.com/loc996/th_47158_Crown_Victoria_MkIII_rear_122_996lo.JPG
No badges either. Weird.
http://img178.imagevenue.com/loc391/th_47168_Crown_Victoria_MkIII_rearL_122_391lo.JPG
I couldn't get a good picture of the front end, because that's somebody's lawn there. It looked normal though.

I just happened to be reading about Hyundai yesterday, it said they didn't sell these in the US.
They're getting pretty uncommon here, they rust out really easily.
http://img203.imagevenue.com/loc441/th_47592_Hyundai_Pony_blue_nose_122_441lo.JPG
Wow! It's an automatic!
http://img186.imagevenue.com/loc204/th_47593_Hyundai_Pony_blue_rearL_122_204lo.JPG
I used to think it would be really cool to tune one of these up, because it came with a 4G63 (Lancer Evo engine). Turns out I read it wrong, they came with a 4G36 (1.2L, maybe 60hp). I still think it's a cool idea.

Here's a Parisienne, not pre-'83, but I was surprised to even find this one. I don't think it runs.

http://img229.imagevenue.com/loc486/th_47602_Parisienne_black_rear_122_486lo.JPG

And here's the reason I went out in the first place:

:wam:
This place often has nice cars out front, but this is by far the rarest/most expensive.

Edit: Taxiguy; went out again, got a Firefly (sedan! rare) and a Pontiac... Uh, Corsica. Tempest? Whatever. The camera doesn't work with my computer, I'll upload the pictures later.

It would be nice to see a Ferrari in my little town. I was floored (shocked) when I saw that Austin-Healey in Minneapolis! I took some 35mm film pictures of a Cadillac Allante that belongs to an insurance agent in town. These were special bodies built in Italy at Pininfarina then flown by air transport to Detroit to complete the assembly. As with many limited-edition domestic American cars of this period, including the Buick Reatta, spare parts are almost nonexistent, except for those with "deep pockets." Having cars like these is a lot of fun...when everything is working properly!

Blakeice thank you very much!! Very nice finds! :dawaflag:

It's funny that you didn't mention in the picture of the Corolla taxi, the Chevette next to it, as it is 10 times more rare/interesting than the cab!

The Crown Vic is amazing... :bave: Do me a favor and steal it for me will you? Then drive it cross-continent and deliver it to me here in Michigan, I'll give you one of our cars to take back home, maybe the Volkswagen Bug

The Hyundi is a nice find too, I like it a lot. Wish they sold them here too.

Good work with the Parisienne too, the ones of that generation are not too hard to find around here, they sold pretty well.

Oh yeah and the Chrysler is nice too, very good color. Don't bother with the second gen cause I hate that generation with a passion anyhow.

Love to see the Firefly and Tempest also, upload them when you can!

-I didn't notice the Chevette until I was processing the photos. I thought maybe it was an Acadian, in which case it would maybe have been worth shooting.

-Crown Vic: It does look pretty uncommon (for such a common car), is it any special specification or anything?

-What's wrong with MkII Intrepids? :heink: Almost nothing?

Firefly: These aren't very good shots, sorry. The camera was being screwy. It's a sedan though, hardly ever see those.

You can sort of see if you look close, this is badged as a Skyline 350GT. It isn't though, it's LHD. Nice wheels, anyway:

http://img234.imagevenue.com/loc164/th_24939_DUB_Dirty_Dog_II_122_164lo.jpg

My friend suggested I get a shot of his Sunfire. I think he was being sarcastic, but here it is (the other side is almost as bad):
http://img150.imagevenue.com/loc953/th_24485_Sunfire_coupe_red_frontR_122_953lo.JPG
I like that 240SX though.

Tempest: This is the 4th or 5th one of these (one may have been a Corsica) I saw yesterday, only parked one though. Now that I'm paying attention, I notice they do have different taillights from Corsicas.

-Chevette: What is an Acadian?

-Crown Vic: No it is no certain type or spec, it's just modified (and very nicely done I'll add)

-Intrepid: What's wrong with the 1998+ Intrepids/Concordes? Everything! It is so horribly flat, wide, and jellybean like. Mind you the Concordes I hate more than the Intrepids (do you even get Concordes there?) Though I do not mind their sportier cousin, the 300M (not sure if you have that either) as it is more angular and much less blob-y and fat in the front and rear ends.

Anyway, that Firefly is in mint condition! Strange, as it seems people deliberately try to run those cars into the ground as quickly as they can.

The thing that interests me about the picture of the Skyline is actually the car you are in  (I am trying to figure out what it is) Would it happen to be your Olds?

The Sunfire is nothing, have you not seen my dad's '86 Camry? (it is much worse in person)
http://forum.imcdb.org/index.ks?page=forum_topic&id=3067&index=1

The Tempest is nice, though the paint on the hood... :ohwell:
But there is nothing differnt about the taillights than on the Corsica? They are the same...
If you ever see one that's in paticularly good condition though, a picture would be nice

Thanks again!

-Acadian= Pontiac Chevette. They all look pretty much exactly like that.

-I like Concordes too, but not as much (and only the pre-2001 models, with the wide grill). The 300M got that Chrysler corporate grill I hate, but the rest is fine. The only things wrong with the Intrepid are FWD and crappy brakes.

-Yes, that's my Olds. If you look at the bit of the hood that's visible, you can see it's doing the same thing as the Tempest. Not down to the metal yet, but a lot of the clearcoat's gone.

-Well, your dad's car is about 15 years older. I think you said it doesn't run, so that's not much worse. If the windows leak and it's all moldy, then it probably smells better too.

-In the only picture I looked at, the Corsica taillights didn't have those lateral ribs in them. And here's a picture almost exactly the same as I took where they do. Whatever. :ohwell:

Hmmm... that's yet another Pontiac you have in CA that we didn't get in the US. We got something almost exactly the same though, but it was called "T-1000" instead of "Acadian"
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.fsbocarsales.com/pics/models/s- m/865.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fsbocarsales.com/plymouth/sapporo&h=112&w=150&sz=- 10&hl=en&start=6&um=1&usg=__ndWeK48j3PUynKvX10zKOgI71cA=&tbnid=B9_MG2ZWL1WDxM:&tbnh=- 72&tbnw=96&prev=/images3Dpontiac2B10003D13Den3D1T4GGLL_en3DN

So the Sunfire leaks? Yes that is quite a bit worse than my dad's  At least in that car the interior is (relatively) comfortable and clean.
We once test-drove a mid-90s Oldsmobile Achieva, and it had mold and moisture all over the seats and interior, I can't tell you how horrible it was to be in that car! We asked the dealer who was selling it about the mold after we got back from the test drive, and he told us that he "forgot to mention" that it had been in an enclosed shed under a plastic tarp for three months in the sticky Alabama summer :kiki: Appearantly the owners weren't aware of the phenomeon of "humidity" and "moisture"

About the Corsica, the first few years had smooth taillights, but the later years (which are most of the ones I see around these days) they switched to the same ridged taillights as the Pontiac had, that's why I was confused

I just got home from a four-day vacation to the Lake Michigan beach (the town of Manistee, Michigan), and I saw quite a few interesting cars while on my trip. I think that in this four-day period I saw the most Ford Crown Victorias, Chevrolet Caprices, Mercury Grand Marquis', Buick Roadmasters, and Lincoln Town Cars than I have ever seen in my entire life. This is probably becuase there is an enourmous amount of how should I say, "senior citizens" living in this area  It seemed to me like half of the all the full-size sedans and wagons in the US were located in this single northern-Michigan town. I didn't even bother to take many pictures of them, as there were simply so many. The two most common ones I saw were the Merucry Grand Marquis and Buick Roadmaster Wagon.

Well anyway, on to the pictures!

Far from a Caprice or Grand Marquis, but tens times more interesting, I spotted this very, very rare Datsun 210 with not a spec of rust on it. After I took this picture I saw this same car in other places throughout the town a couple more times.

http://i38.tinypic.com/r2u5ba.jpg

The sad part is that this poor little car was being forced to pull this big heavy trailer behind it! How abusive of the owner to do such a thing, look how it sags in the back (though one of the times I saw it again when it was not pulling the trailer, but for some reason still sagged a bit  ) By the way Neptune, why don't you check the towing capacity for this baby? Maybe 150 pounds or so?

http://i38.tinypic.com/2lctidl.jpg

A very non-rusty 1977-79 Caprice/Impala (I can't tell which, as it appaered all the badges had been removed) The paint isn't too good, but considereing the fact that this car is 30 years old it is still in very good overall condition.

http://i34.tinypic.com/15wavk0.jpg

A 1973-75 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu also in quite good condition. Someone who knows this generation well can tell me the exact year.

http://i34.tinypic.com/16k9fv4.jpg

http://i35.tinypic.com/w1wrp0.jpg

Why is this Caravan's front so high? Becuase there is no engine in it! (no joke)

http://i35.tinypic.com/2likdug.jpg

A Dodge Charger of the Manistee Poice Department. Manistee PD has five cruisers: two Chargers, two Crown Victorias, and a Ford Explorer.

http://i34.tinypic.com/2a9sjyu.jpg

A 1968-72 Chevrolet El Camino SS with the lightning fast 454 motor. Again, someone who knows these can tell me the exact year.

http://i37.tinypic.com/24cy1qp.jpg

Another El Camino spotted in the same K-Mart parking lot as the first, this one a 1982-87 model.
http://i36.tinypic.com/2rly9oi.jpg

An ex-police car Ford Crown Victoria. By the wheels and grille, it appears to be a 2001-2002 model (correct me if I'm wrong ford guy)

http://i35.tinypic.com/dqlzea.jpg

One of only a couple Caprice wagons I saw on the trip, for some reason it's sister - the Buick Roadmaster, seems to be much more common. This one was in the McDonalds drive-thru and seemed to be carrying a large number of people (it can seat up to nine!)

http://i33.tinypic.com/21d214i.jpg

A few cars belonging to the State of Michigan fleet. A new Ford Focus (there were three more of those, though one of them was a 2005-07 model), a Chevrolet Cavalier, and a Chevrolet Impala, all with the "State" logo on both front doors.

http://i36.tinypic.com/2m31vdx.jpg

My first real-life smart car sighting! (again in the K-Mart parking lot) It's even uglier in person!
