Junk yards and abandoned cars

That Finnish dealer is now advertising three 505 estates. Unless 505s were massively popular in Finland, they must be actively looking for them to export to Africa.

Seeing all the Toyota and the two Mercedes, for sure yes it is for export: all the cars on that page are common models in Africa
These Carina/Corolla were everywhere in Cameroon for example.

They are actively looking for Peugeot 505's. It was quite expensive car when new but still many were sold. It's a shame to see these cars go abroad. About the third 505 estate the dealer states that it's in too good condition to be exported. I hope a Peugeot collector buys it. Certainly one of my all-time favourite car models (esp. 505 GTI).

Does this: "Ei hinnoiteltu" means "on request"?
Right now annother little anecdote came in my mind. An experience, my wife had made some years ago.
She was looking for a car, it should be a Diesel-car with a low consumption (later on it was the Astra G from the Bundeswehr-auction). For a while she thought about to buy a Polo 6N from the German Post. They are often cheap to get, but mostly roughly damaged (as we've found out later).
On sunny day we went to a dealer, who had offered such a Post-Polo. A dealer of the real confidence - on the company-sign was something like "Al Harouni-cars. Import, Export and Arbitration" and "We pay cash, immediately and discreet"
It was a dirty gravel-stone area behind a decayed industrial area. The office was a rotten Camping-trailer. The "CEO" was a fat, unshaved guy, wearing dirty boxer-shorts and an undershirt. He sat in front of the famous office an two plastic beer-boxes, in one hand a beer-bottle, the other he needed to scratch his privates.
Besides the Polo were standing some old Benzes, several Toyotas and some shabby VW Buses.
In the background there were two Turkish youngsters, who tried to restart a broken BMW 3 Series Convertible.
A real great scenery, an absolute cliche, worth to use it for a movie.

Surely used by the fire-brigade to test and show their rescue-tools. When I see somewhere older cars without valid registration, standing beside the fire-fighter-house, I'm always sure, what will happen to them.

@DonSergioMorello: in my German license-plate-collector-forum there someone new, a fan -and I think owner- of a "Made for DDR" GSA. He had posted this Hungarian link: http://rendszervaltas.mti.hu/Pages/Default.aspx?date=0906&ni=138&li=5&rt=2
about the mass-exodus of DDR-citizens in Summer 1989 in Hungaria and the abandoned cars of them.

@Road Wars Fanatic: the pics are all from Irland, correct?
10 years ago I've been on an small, but really nice scrapyard in Stewartstown/Northern Ireland. There were many realy old cars, placed there since 20 to 30 years, most of them sunk into the nature. The funny thing is, that the old scrapyard was underneath(!) the newer one. My friend from Dublin, which whom I went there, told me, that this junkyard was in use since decades. One day, when the space was full, the owner took a bulldozer, have smashed the wrecks, have put some tons of gravel on them - and have placed more cars on it...
On the sides of this area, you could see the rests of cars from the 30ies and 40ies looking out of the ground.

@ingo yeah, somewhere in Ireland I think in kildare reading through 1 or 2 of the comments on the pictures. Interesting story by the way, this is a real old fashioned 'you pull it' scrapyard. these are sadly dying out now due to enviornmental Pressure I hear even guy with a few cars in a yard are being targeted. A real shame.
And another few cars from it:
Saab 96
Volvo 340
Saab 9000 Turbo

It was for sale for a year or so, owner asked for 1000 euros, and no one wanted to buy it. That's the reason why it got scrapped.

That's really a shame. I'm not an Citroen-expert, but I think, it's really worth more than 1000 Euro.
Do you have a chance to save it now, perhaps picking it up "half-legally" without papers or so? Sure, it's often a problem to make such deal, but with some scrapyard-owners you can talk...
