I noticed that all of the CRXs listed on this site are listed as such "CRX" but in japan (and I think most places besides the USA) they were sold as "CR-X" with a hyphen so shouldn't they be listed as such?

I also was wondering about the US Spec CRXs and why they are not listed as "Civic CRX" as they were always sold here in the Civic range of vehicles (2D Coupe, 3D HB, 4D Sedan, 5D Wagon & CRX) The first generation of CRXs (84-87)were badged with both CIVIC badges and CRX decals. The second generation (88-91) only had CRX decals but were still sold as Civic models and were referred to in that manner. Take for instance the following picture shows the owners manual for my 1991 Civic CRX and a Honda Service Manual for a 1990 both referring to the car as a Civic.

At a time we decided to use just CRX for easy of listing.
We can change that, but we have to clearly decide what to do for various years & markets.
In Belgium (probably Europe) the 3rd gen was "Civic CRX" and not "Del Sol"... at least at the beginning: it seems that at a time they dropped the Civic name.

Yes the third generation does seem difficult as even in america the first year it was badged as a Civic del Sol but after the first year the Civic badge was dropped (although I have to study some official literature from Honda as it maybe the same situation as the second gen where the civic badge was gone but the car was still refered to as a civic crx in literature)

For cars sold in the usa it is easy for the 1st and second generations They are all "Civic CRX" with the trim designations of DX, HF or Si. So I think that is how we should list them

Well of coarse Honda had to be difficult when It comes to the 3rd generation, According to the owners manuals the 93 and 94s were Civic del Sols and the 95-97's were just del Sols (USDM) so I guess it is better to leave all of the del Sol's like they are unless we know for sure that it is a 93 or 94 US model. The sam way we have been doing the Econoline/E-series vans?


Also It is del Sol (lowercase d, upper case S) not Del Sol

As this varies by country this is not something you can do in a batch is it Antoine? Should I make comments on each page that needs to be changed? i.e. "Civic CRX"

First, is that really worth doing the change? Considering how they were not consistant in all their documents...

So it is either CR-X or Civic CRX ? Or are there also some with just CRX?

Don't worry I wasn't going to just jump in and start making comments, I don't want to "step on anyone's toes" Is it worth doing the change? To me yes as it would be correct (no different than changing 99-up Econolines to E-Series) "Civic CRX" Was just in North America every where else got CR-X (except the first ones in Japan which were sold as Ballade Sports CR-X) for the first and second generations 84-91 everything is consistent with the documents (owners manuals,service manuals, brochures all refer to USDM as Civic CRX, even insurance companies and sites like kelly blue book list CRX as a model of the Civic) It only gets tricky when we get to the 3rd Generation (del Sol) but there are differences and there are not that many on the site so that shouldn't be that bad. But if you would rather all of the CRXs like they are I guess I understand.

This is indeed going to take a lot more research on my part. As in germany it is also sold as the Civic CRX without the hyphen. I will let you know when the results are conclusive

Well after looking through some of my CRX brochures it seems that in Germany, France , Holland and the UK they were sold as Civic CRXs

okay well after looking at all of the brochures from around the world that I have here. This is what I have found:

In Japan:

1983-1985 Honda Ballade Sports CR-X
1986-1991 Honda CR-X
1992-1998 Honda CR-X del Sol

In the US:

1984-1991 Honda Civic CRX
1993-1994 Honda Civic del Sol
1995-1997 Honda del Sol

In Europe:

1984-1991 Honda Civic CRX
1992-1994 Honda Civic CRX del Sol
1995-1998 Honda CRX

Sounds good, except that dash which is in a way still annoying: was it really consistent in the brochures? i.e. always used in Japan and never outside?
Also, "del Sol" name was not used at all in Europe from what I know Did you find that in official brochures ?
The post-1992 CRXs that I saw here had "Civic CRX" badge, no "del Sol".

The red car looks like it is imported from USA, because of the position of the rear fog light.

yes Japan always had the dash and no one else did, as for the Civic CRX del Sol I have a brochure from Germany that shows it as Civic CRX del Sol in 1994

Well that's Germany. In Belgium I never saw wone with such "del Sol" badge: only a badge "Civic CRX"

Everything I find (although not for Belgium) lists the 1992-1994's as Civic CRX del Sols in Europe.

I still think they should be named according to the way honda named them (mostly talking about the 83-91 version) even in the matter of the last problem with the 3rd gens there are only 3 on the site for which we would have to figure out which way to call it (civic crx del sol or just civic crx)

any decisions ?

I guess we can rename them if nobody disagrees... I'll still ask Exiv96 to comment on that subject, as he knows Japanese cars pretty well.
