How about this: If the exact same vehicle appears in another movie, we put a link named like the movie under the photo. Clicking on the link will take you to the page of that car in that other movie, for example:

Under http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_53115-Volkswagen-Station-Wagon-Typ-2-T2-1978.html the link should be in the following way:

Also appears in You, Me and Dupree

That's one of the features we already made in the next version of the site
(also including stunt doubles, related roles, etc.)

Another idea: link for adding release date of the movie next to "Add a vehicle."

 I do not think it is useful to have more than just the first release year as currently. There is IMDb for more detailed info.

Couldn't find a better place to post this...

I've removed a giant header with "Where are the ads?" by right mouse click, and now everything is messed up; I can't reply anymore and generally the comment box is gone.

I changed recently from Firefox to Pale Moon, so I thought it was due to a forgotten block I previously swept with the (now non-working with my browser) YARIP extension. Thanks to show me it was just a new "item" on the site, Gamer
Whatever you used to remove this "header", you have maybe selected too much for it: there are several nested div elements in that area and a javascript, so a too large selection could have wracked something? Did you retry with just the text of this "anti-anti-ad" selected?

@antp: what about the idea that the <div id="SiteLifeSupportMissing"> could be set as "display:none" (or "visibility:hidden", but it will then leave a gap in the display) for registered users? If I'm not mistaken, a simple "if" about the relevant variables would just mean 1 more line. Ok, 2 lines with the closing bracket if you write this "easy-readable", 3 with a comment

I right-clicked with the mouse and clicked on "Diese Werbung entfernen" because the notice was obscuring everything, but I seem to have removed more stuff...

I can't retry as now the text is gone...Perhaps it's got something to do with the fact that I use AdBlocker?

Well you got that giant header because you block ads and, as explained in that header, it is bad
The goal was getting people to disable the ad blocking on imcdb rather than removing that block...

Check in the options of AdBlocker to remove the rule that you added accidentally. There are normally options to see blocked items.

@Elmer > why should it be not visible for registered users? New visitors won't really care, that's more the regular users that should be concerned about the fact that they block ads on the site they use!

Maybe because the site gets then (more or less) money with our work of identification? As said before, and even if it could sound paradoxical, I'm ready to pay a kind of subscription, not to suffer jerking ads about incontinence or life insurances (I don't know what are the actual ads. I always have an anti-ad).
Better said, is it rude to ask for a kind of acknowledgement for the time and knowledge we all give to the IMCDb?

By the way:
[...] not all ads are annoying [...]: they are all annoying for everyone, except for the webmasters who hope to earn money from them

[...] and AdBlock's default settings and whitelisting [...]: with AdBlock "acceptable ads" evolution, some forks appeared. Moreover, there is (at least for Firefox and derivatives) some other "non-AdBlock related" anti-ad add-ons. And some home-made / work-provided proxies (Privoxy, Squid...) block advertisements too. Maybe you should use the more general "anti-ad system" name?

• your "anti-anti-ad" is a Javascript. No-Script should certainly work, then

In fact, it's just a kind of arms race: Internet users have now the anti-anti-anti-ad (doesn't work with Pale Moon. Or works only with AdBlock Plus, that I don't use?). Next move for webmasters will logically be to create an anti-anti-anti-anti-ad. As said in a lot of TV-series: "Stay tuned"

Oops, I'm a really bad, bad person
Guaranteed without any image manipulation, except for the image cropping and resizing. How much should I ask for not saying here how I did it? :666:

(Just to illustrate what I said before: ads, anti-ads, anti-anti-ads, etc are part of a never ending story...)

Possibility of donations for removing ads is something that we'll probably add on the next version, we didn't forget your idea

It is difficult to define which members are eligible to not have ads on on automatic basis. Maybe in the next version of the site there could be some "ranking", with ads being removed for the most active/contributing members, as it would be a right reward that those who contribute to the site with quality contents don't have to "pay" via ads.
But as I said, it is not easy to define. Why one has no ads and why another still has them, etc. I see problems coming :ohwell:

I am not annoyed by ads like those here on the site, I use adblock by adding filters manually to remove annoying ads only, I do not use the automatic/predefined lists.

In the case of IMCDb the script to detect the blocked ads is simple and basic because I do not want to absolutely detect the ad-blocking in all case, I just want to make people more aware of a potential problem coming if more and more people block ads using these so easy sytems like AdBlock/ABP (the more well known I think)... What will webmasters do then?
I do not care much if people find how to block the notice that is shown (as I even say in it that they an do it), I just want to "warn" the mass of people who find cool to remove ads and do not realize than many sites rely on ads. A lot of site put too many ads (the more annoying they are the more money they earn), and it is unfair that the other sites also have their ads blocked.

I know that you don't like ads, that's fine with me if you block them, and you contribute to the site contents anyway

If I just wanted to pay for server hosting, it wouldn't be a problem, it is rather cheap.
But the idea with IMCDb if the site can grow and have better ad campaigns, more subject-related, is also try to replace for my brother-in-law and me a part of our regular job, so we can continue to improve the site (the reason why the new version takes so many time is because we do that on a part of our free time).
