So if somebody has remarks/suggestions he can do that before it is too late

1. Country info

As discussed on http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=24077
I will add two fields:
- Origin: the country from which the car is, usually the country of the make, except for models made for a specific market (e.g. VW Brasil, etc.)
- Made for: the country for which the car was made, when it had to be adapted (e.g. Citroën SM with strange headlights for US market)

First field will use the flag icons that are already used to indicate the country of the members.

Second field will use the round shapes with letters, made by Alexander (that look like the stickers on the rear of the cars, though it was more common 20 years ago than now).


2. Body makers

For lots of Rolls-Royces, most of the busses, and some trucks, we currently use the chassis make as make, but then the body maker is displayed as extra info. Few members asked to have a way to search by body maker, and display the list of makers that we have.
So for that I will add a field "body maker".

But what about the name given by the body maker?
- add an extra field for that?
- use the current extra info field for that?
I think that the second solution could work, as it would look like:
[make] [model] [body name] by [body maker]
e.g.
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=33532
would be displayed as
Dennis Trident President by Plaxton
with only Dennis Trident used as make/model on the general listing pages (like currently).

Sounds like a great idea. So for origin, you'll have Ford USA and Ford Europe and Ford Austrailia? And made for will be like Chrysler Voyagers sold outside the US? Hopefully someone won't go overzealous and fill in "Fisher" for most of GM's vehicles (since they have a sticker on the door sill that reads "Body by Fisher").

qwerty_86 >> yes, for Ford there will be USA/Europe/Australia for recent models (and also France/Germany/UK for older ones). About Chrysler outside USA, it will still be USA as origin, but we can for example put France as "made for" country of a Chrysler Viper & Chrysler Voyager.

Don't forget the European Chryslers (Simca/Talbot).

But for these origin is France, as they were made by Chrysler France (Simca).
Btw, a Plymouth Horizon, is it from France or from USA? I would say from France as it was designed by Simca France.

I think more necessary it is for US versions of European cars as they are more common in the movies - Volvo 240 US headlights etc

Something for next weekend

I would appreciate a possibility to only see the last added cars, or sorted by the date they were added.

With the series and documentaries with hundreds of cars which are being updated regularly it is very difficult to find the newly added cars. Finding mistakes or cars where only the model is unknown is taking too much time and therefore most members wont care about that.

That's funny, but I've put that today on my to-do list, I was discussing that with "Star Wars Fanatic" on MSN Messenger (as somebody else than him added cars on Top Gear, and he wanted which ones were added).
I will probably add in the next few days a drop-down list to change the sorting order on the movie pages.
I planned to do the following possibities:
1. vehicle make + vehicle model + vehicle mk + vehicle year (like current)
2. episode number + other vehicle info
3. importance + other vehicle info
4. vehicle ID (allows to see latest added)
5. picture date + vehicle ID (same, but also shows what pictures were replaced)

You can list here the change that I have to do directly in the DB, e.g. putting France as origin for all Renault, etc.
Well, for major makes I can do it myself of course. So it is better to wait a little before listing those that I "forgot".
What you can already do is editing special vehicles :
- brazilian VW
- cars with a "(country)" in extra info (remove the (country) in extra info once edited)
- ...

How do we list the Chevrolet made from rebadged Daweoo?
Origin = US and MadeFor = EU ? Or are they sold outside Europe ?

Question: Is the origin just for the brand? Mercedes-Benz is German but the ML is made in the USA, and the new VW Beetle is made in Mexico. Vauxhall is British, but their cars are rebadged Opels and made in different countries, the Omega is produced in Germany. There are also Honda Civics made in Swindon, England. And for British cars (registered in the UK and RHD) do Europe makes have to the "made for" field including (as GB)?

Also I can see some arguments about the new Rolls-Royce Phantom. Rolls-Royce is now owned by BMW, the body and the engine are made in Germany, and the car is finished off at the Goodwood factory in England. A lot of people now disdainfully call it a German Rolls-Royce.

So for VW it is usually either Germany or Brazil. For the Beetle, it was designed in Germany, so its origin is Germany, IMHO.
ML is made in USA, but it is sold with the other MB in Europe and other countries, so it could be considered as a German car as it is part of the general MB production and not specific to USA.
About Vauxhall, I do not know I would say that they are UK cars, but you are right about the rebadged Opel... so we have to decide what to do with these.
Honda Civic is a Japanese car.
I do not think that it is useful to mark UK cars as "made for..." unless the name change, or that the car has a visual difference (other than the steeringwheel side :D)
RR is owner by BMW, but it is still considered as UK cars I think. Well, it is a subject on which we can discuss.
