In the 3rd and 4th thumbs under "Lego Stuff", the Lego castle shown is the Royal Knights Castle (set #6090) first released in 1995. I know because I have owned that set since I first got it in March 1996 for my 7th birthday

Before I moved out from Syria, I used to have it displayed on my shelf among my other Lego sets. Here's a photo of it taken in 2008, it's the castle in the middle on the top shelf:

The other Lego set in the 1st and 2nd thumbs is Hurricane Harbor/Coast Gaurd HQ (set #6338) also first released in 1995.

Not in movies (that I know of) but I wanted to share this.

Fake Chinese Lego set of an unnamed Communist military base - complete with a quite obvious UAZ 469!

Lego classic car sets. I'm trying very hard to be convinced by them, and a couple get pretty close. But overall - no.

In the big models, the VW van & F40 are really nice, really must-have for Lego fans. The Mini & VW Beetle are not as good, IMHO.

Not really Lego In Movies, but I don't really feel justified in opening a thread for "Lego In The Sea"

Strange that you don't like it, among the Lego fans the Mustang is one of the best one of the series though
(maybe more for the build itself than the final result, even if it is still better than some others of the series for that)

this one maybe.. but the green one pictured is a nightmare..
( but at 210 $ i'd go for a real 1/18 )

Maybe i'm only too picky ( not sure if its the good word ) about the details ..

Yes I meant that one, as my message was about the big models
The small green one is not bad for the scale, you can't achieve in Lego the same result as die-cast scale models
Also for the price, it is not really comparable. The Lego is supposed to be useable for something else than just a scale model that you keep for display (even if a lot of these sets will be assembled once and then stay in display case, of course).

I'm a vocal critic of Lego's Speed Champions range, as most of them barely resemble their real counterparts. I mean, this is supposed to be a Nissan Skyline !?

https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/2-fast-2-furious-nissan-skyline-gt-r-r34-76917

But I've recently found myself buying the 1970 Ferrari 512M. I admit it doesn't look as bad as the other ones.

https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/1970-ferrari-512-m-76906

Meanwhile, Playmobil has released a Citroën 2CV with figures of not-at-all-stereotypical french persons.

https://www.playmobil.be/fr/citroen-2cv/70640.html

Actually, I'm posting this because Playmobil has decided to include clear AND yellow headlight glass to choose from ! That's a nice touch.

And for anyone wanting brick-like assembly AND a realistic finish, Airfix has the answer.

At same time, its pretty much the same with the Lego sets we have here . You can take the pieces out of the box but you have a very limited liberty if you want to think outside of it ( i don't know if its different in Europe ) . I don't mind those pre-designed sets but i miss my childhood " Let your imagination run free " pack of bricks and think the sets should be sold alongside them and not replacing them..

How old are you?
Sets are not so much different than in the 80s/90s on that aspect.
In the 80s there were Town sets like there are now City sets, except that now they tend to contain much more parts than their equivalent.
Of course there are new parts, but many are not so specific, they are often quite re-usable. But indeed the more different part there are, the less basic plates/bricks you find. You can do much more advanced/realistic things now than 40 years ago, but you usually need more parts to do it too.
If you compare the generic brick boxes or the "Basic" line from the 80s with today's sets, it is an unfair comparison: nowadays they still make these, with the "Classic" line for rather standard re-usable parts with many bricks, or with the "Creator" for something between these generic bricks and the playsets, with sets that allow to do more easily different things (like their 3-in-1 sets).
For example in my house made in Lego ( https://antp.be/lego/moc/house.php ), there are a lot of the details I could never have done even 20 years ago, as many parts were added since then. Same for the colors, if you compare with basic ones from the 80s.

Of course more specialized sets like the Speed Champions are probably less re-usable alone, but on the other hand when you mix these with other sets you have a lot of small parts that can be quite helpful. For example https://brickset.com/sets/76918-1/McLaren-Solus-GT-McLaren-F1-LM introduced some parts in orange, which are useful for the Yaris I'm making at that scale
Photos not yet online, I still have to do that, and also get some of these orange parts.
I also still have to put the Toyota stickers that I got via another Speed Champions set, https://brickset.com/sets/76901-1/Toyota-GR-Supra

i'm in mid-40's ( for about a month, after that the slow march towards 50 begins.. ) .

Maybe i just lost track of them and basic ones getting rarer to find once the sets took the stores by storm i just assumed they were replaced . At least, its the impression i have . Just taking a look on the Classic line : no windows, no doors , no wheels unless there is a car on the box..

Or were they part of sets and i just don't remember ? possible too as i was not the one buying them when i was a kid..

Nice house

Not so much older than me than  (soon 43)
Just bricks without doors, wheels, windows, etc. that sounds like Lego from the 60s (though that they already had windows) or just basic brick box, but not sets :figti:

just found them, i forgot to click on next ( there was 29 results and i saw only the first 24 ) on Toys R Us website.. but you still have to buy a box of this, a box of that and a box of these ones ( and a green or blue plate ) to find what you really want.. marketing at its best..

I'll be honest , maybe the ones i had as a kid were a little bit of these, of that and maybe this and i just thought it was sold that way..
( i really don't have a single clue of how i ended up with them at the first place.. )

What's your opinion of the sets Lego makes for Ikea ? I like the idea of a pre-built box that you can outfit with furniture and accessories, but it looks quite basic, even bare, and the lack of windows doesn't make it look welcoming.
