The next few posts were from the same day, Radwood NJ and 24 Hours of Lemons NJ. They combined both into one event, the car show going on while the race was on the track. Both are great events to attend if you have the opportunity.

The 480 was planned to be sold in the US (which is why they had sidemarkers and federal bumpers) but due to the value of the dollar in 1987, this never came to fruition.

Along with Radwood was the 24 Hours of Lemons. Most of what is raced are small cars/sport sedans from the 90s-00s. Here are some of the unusual things seen on the racetrack (Some I am saving for the infield pics):


So someone took two Pacers and made a fishbowl, then placed that body on top of a Toyota MR2, resulting in the most unusual thing seen:

ingo - That's a shame. Hopefully they can re-schedule when things quiet down.

eLMer - I don't think anyone on this side of the pond has ever heard of that film, so I doubt that was inspiration. The Pacer always had the nickname of the "fishbowl", so I think they wanted to create one. But that film does look interesting.


Now for the infield race cars. One of the cool things about this double-show was that everyone was allowed to cross the bridge and wander around the infield, so you could see the cars up close and watch the teams frantically trying to get the cars running. So my 5 picks are:


A Sunbeam Rapier Convertible. Apparently the floors were completely rotted so the team put the body on top of a Pinto chassis, so it was a Pinto wearing the Sunbeam body. Either way a truly unusual sight:

One team ran a Peugeot 405 MI-16, which was Peugeot's last model sent to the States, another rare sight:

I found a Datsun 510 sedan hiding away, it didn't run in the race, I think a backup car:

Another unusual car that wasn't running was this Nissan Axxess. The team desperately tried to get it running but it wouldn't work:

kind of sad to see a rare 405 ending this way ( same for the SVT Contour in your album )

I still have two questions ?

1 : did the Cayman really made the race ?
2 : why do the 300ZX wear the SAAB name ?

1. No the Cayman was not one of the racers, just someone's personal car parked in the infield.

2. I believe the Z was running a Saab Turbo engine

Somebody near me converted a 21st Century Dodge Challenger into a Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird. Here's a side view.

And this is the front end. The doors of the hideaway headlights move to the bottom, and the headlights themselves are strictly modern halo ones.
