GCC Tag?
Published 29/11/2022 @ 22:35:01, By dhill_cb7
Hi all,

I know this has come up a few times but I am finding out more and more there are GCC spec vehicles.

Sort of like the EU tag we have. Would this be too hard to add? Do we want to keep just adding the specific country where filming takes place?

Falcon has been posting differences between GCC spec and other countries. We can obviously keep applying specific country tags to these vehicles.

I wanted to see if anyone had any input into this.

For instance there are quite a few differences between the normal 1998-2011 Crown Victoria for their market and NA market. It could definitely desire a GCC tag. I am going to just use SA for this entry I am referring below as an example. Their market received our Police Interceptor stylings (black grille), black bumper trim which only our P71 had an option for. The LWB was not sold to the public here but their market had the option to order them. There seem to be other differences that I posted on the specific entry listed below.

Here is a diplomatic Kuwait spec Vic: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c3/Saudi_2003_Crown_Victoria_LX- _with_diplomatic_license_plates_in_Kuwait.jpg
Note the black bumper trim and black grille on a Civilian model.

Here a civilian LWB model:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Crown_Victoria#/media/File:P70_LWB_Kuwait.jpg
Note the chrome door handles on the LWB (not offered here in NA AFAIK)

Sorry for the long post. I am just using Ford as an example but there are definitely other makes (Toyota) that would benefit from this.

Thanks for reading.

I'm just a little afraid of all the "made for" other tags that this will bring

I know that some time ago there was also discussion for something similar for South-America, I can't recall the name.

There could also be a "made for export" tag for many vehicles (e.g. the Japanese ones) but that's a lot of work to update/fill.

If we add GCC, as it is not really a country identifier, would we keep the same style of image or is there some official logo for that?
These oval images currently used were made to look like the stickers that we used to have on the back of cars, but for this one it may seem strange.

Another possibility would be to keep the current "made for" country tag and just add GCC in the extra info, but I suppose it won't be as explicit as the image + tooltip of the "made for" tag.

Note that such discussion can be done in public: the input of non-admins can be useful too  (if you want I can move the thread)

Sure if you want to move the thread. I don't want to create more work or a bottomless pit. I just thought it might be beneficial to have these odd specimen entries easily accessible or searchable.

I have noticed, going through many vehicles over the years, that the middle east does indeed have some different additions.

I did not know the hood ornaments were GCC spec. I originally thought they were just owner added but now that Falcon has discovered this is actually the way they were sold that was a neat find.

I just wanted to put the discussion out there because exiv96 also mentioned differences between the middle eastern spec cars and the rest of the world.

Normally they are some type of mixed bag with some NA specs mixed with EU specs mixed with their own spin.

For instance a US spec bumper, EU repeater and then a GCC spec hood ornament.

I'm in favor of a Made for GCC tag too. I've been trawling Toyota parts (and chassis codes) listings for a while now, and over the years, I've seen some "Made for SAA" (Saudi Arabia) for 1970s & 80s models, followed by a few "Made for ME", which I suppose meant Middle East, and many, many "Made for GCC" since the 1990s.

From what I've seen and read, GCC-spec Toyotas are rather conservative and yet a bit showy (like the GCC itself, amiright? ). Carburators instead of fuel injection, basic trim versions with big engines, but also side stripes and hood emblems on offroaders.

Also, all GCC-spec Toyotas have an extra V at the end of their extended chassis code, just like all EU-spec have a W, all Canadian-spec have a K, and so on.

So, yes, I'd like a GCC tag, just like we have an EU one.

I moved the thread here in public.
As said above, we have to decide if we want the pic in the same style as the others, or a different one as it is not really a country.
In both cases, one can send me a png image for the new tag.

I mean i would say yes but then that's just my biases kicking in. However, it would make it easier for me (and potentially others) to simply put a GCC tag rather than having to debate with myself in regards to potential parallel imports, out of state cars or trying to identify the location of the scene/film.

dhill_cb7 & Exiv96 have already mentioned some examples above but i thought i would provide some more (warning, long boring details ahead):

  1. Gulf Spec '15-17 S550 Mustangs have Euro mirrors and rear badging but retains the NA headlights, taillights and vents on the bonnet. The V6 was an option as well unlike the European market.
  2. C6 and C7 Corvette's had headlight washers and bigger mirrors just like other export markets but in the case of the C6, it retain the USDM's all-red taillights (Ignore the blacked out side markers tho).
  3. 2nd gen Lexus IS's came with a 3.0 litre 3GR V6 instead of port injected 2.5 or 3.5 V6s. Other Lexus's of the era also received either non-port injected versions of already existing engines or completely different ones.
  4. 4th gen Cressida's had completely different engine choices, different trim levels, bulky USDM bumpers, USDM headlights, a hood ornament and chrome door handles. The XL trim for example is a basic, poverty spec model that came with a 22R carburetor (From an 80s Hilux), black bumpers, steelies, fabric maroon/grey seats, manual gearbox as standard, no tachometer, basic air conditioner and less sophisticated AM/FM radio. Also it has one of those 120 km/h speed chime like every other GCC spec car.
  5. Several Japanese SUVs & Pick up trucks tend to have tribal looking vinyl decals as OEM. A trend that have mostly died out in other markets.
  6. GM selling single cab Silverado/Sierra's in non-base model trims like the Trail Boss and AT4 which aren't available in the States nor Canada.
  7. Some cars like the Ferrari 599 GTB/GTO, American/Canadian built Honda Civic's, Accords, CR-Vs, Pilot, Odyssey's, Hyundai Excels, Nissan Pathfinder, Sunny B13, Suzuki Swift, Baleno, Toyota xA, 5th gen Avalon, '15-17 XSE Camry and VW Passat NMS among other cars have side markers/reflectors. This not including American cars or cars that are primarily made for North American market.
  8. R31 Skylines (Yes those exists) coming with either an RB30S or RB30E only.
  9. GCC Spec Y33 Gloria's were not offered with a turbo or diesel engines. Also lacking a lot of JDM gadgets. This applies to a lot of Toyota's and Nissan's throughout the 80s and 90s.
  10. Land Cruisers having several trim levels, different engine and powertrain options, side decals as mentioned before, hood ornaments (on older models only), various optional stuff like barn doors or factory winch..etc.
  11. Honda S2000 being based on the European market.
  12. 2008-2009 Taurus retaining the Five Hundred name in GCC
  13. GMT800 GMC Yukon XL retaining the Suburban name in the Middle East.
  14. LWB Mercury Grand Marquis & Crown Victoria being available to the Public.
  15. Further more, 1998-2011 Panther bodies had few key differences between NA and Gulf. For example, all regular Crown Vics (like non P71/LX/LWB P70) are actually based on the P72 fleet spec models with some changes. Some things like the dual Exhausts, rear A/C and LX Sport wheels were standardized at some point. A "Special Edition" trim package was launched in 2008 exclusively for the Gulf market, in fact that's why the 3 bar grill was named as such.
  16. Some late model Toyota Avanza's have a rear fog light, right in the middle.
  17. Various odd rebadging cars by the big 3 like the Dodge Neon (Fiat Tipo), Chevrolet Captiva (Baojun 530), RAM 1200 (Mitsubishi L200), Ford Taurus (Chinese Ford Mondeo), Chevrolet Lumina & Caprice (Holden Commodore & Statesman), Chevrolet Epica (Daewoo Magnus & Tosca), 2008-2010 GMC Terrain (Opel Antara), GMC B10 (Brazilian made Chevrolet Series 20), 96-99 GMC sonoma (Brazilian Chevy S10) and few other.
  18. 2nd gen Ford Explorer having US amber headlights and export side indicators.
  19. Side indicators on the 2nd gen Toyota Avalon and Toyota xA among other cars
  20. 4th gen Caprice receiving an LTZ trim while the Impala SS was sold as the Caprice SS. Also, both models had a "Collection Edition" version at the end of the production run.

In the end I just modified the GCA tag with the GCC text from yours sized down, as resizing the whole pic gave a different result.
I added GCC to the countries list, but I'm still not sure if it is good to use that as a country tag or if we should have some other additional tag. It can still be changed later if we need another similar tag, having a "special features" field for such tags in addition to the countries.

A "special features" field sounds interesting but not sure how you're going to exactly implement it.

It could be used for US police versions, GCC, etc. Just a list separated from the country, for this kind of specially-equiped vehicles.

Not sure how others feel about this but i'm fine with having a separate list to be honest.
