I know they had other cars aside from the Beetle. However, they all sucked ass. And you can compare Germany's Volkswagen Beetle economy car, to America's Ford Falcon and Dodge Dart (our economy sedans).

I can only assume that you have never driven, ridden in, seen, researched or are otherwise aware of Mercedes Benz.

I don't consider cars built without shocks, and made from duct tape and metal to be good. I hate having to ride in my uncle's Audi. It hurts ones spine and is very ugly (well, more like boring I guess). And most people who want/like them, have never been in them or don't know anything about them.

But I (as you know) am very biased towards big American cars. Not pos import econohatches.

What is a fair comparison, in your opinion? I vote 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 vs. any of all 1964 Mercedes (as the Ford was better then all).

I was doing research on Mercedes cars, and I was completely shocked that almost all had puny four bangers and inline sixes. Why the hell is that? I mean, at least give it a good engine for selling it at those prices.

Also, I seem to recall this rare Galaxie have over 600HP. Has any Benz ever hit that?

Tonnes of Brabus and Amg cars, yes. And they don't handle like a suet pudding on ice.

You are right (that they do not handle well). However, you will note that in America, cars don't need to handle. So when makes boasted (in the 50s-70s) that their cars got good miles per gallon and could handle well, no one wanted or cared.

AMG is not a custom car, I can stoll down the road and buy one. And yes, you don't need good handling, as I drove a 1980 Trans Am there, and you don't need speed either, as the limit is 50 and I got pulled over after forty minutes.

And to compare reliability and performance of Cadillac and Mercedes is just, well... not informed - when we compare the Cadillac Seville STS with S-Klasse W140 from the early 90s for example.. Caddy is still stuck in the 50 years old ohv V8 which lasted without major repairs max. about 160.000 kms.. on the other hand, Mercedes produces S600...

The result is quite obvious

note: I am not Mercedes lover, I like US cars, but some things are just facts + the realiability of newer Mercs went rapidely down (but that is world-wide trend unfortunately)

AMG is a company, a brand (such as Roush or Shelby) that takes Mercedes cars and then customizes them. Just exactly like Shelby, Roush, SVT, Steeda and Lingenfelter.

Wickey, I agree. But in my opinion, American cars rule everything. I think this because I do not give a shit about reliability, handling, economy and quality. So, Benz just does not have anything good aside from those things. Speed, sure, but the only fast ones are so insanely high in price, it just makes you want to go out and buy that $41,000 GT-500 (and walk away with $100,000 that would not be there if you bought a AMG Benz).

They were until 1999. Now it's part of Mercedes.

The fact is Mercs are just better than the Cadillacs of recent years, they are more sporty, more technologically advanced and more sophisticated. The Cadillac DTS just can't really compete with the Mercedes S-Class. Perhaps Mercedes are a bit overpriced but they are still better than most other cheaper cars. Cadillacs aren't bad cars but they are still big, wallowing barges padded out with leather interiors, a Mercedes is just a different animal, they are still luxurious but are much sleeker, quicker and more sophisticated, a big Cadillac could never keep up with it on a racetrack, and I don't want to hear about the CTS-V and STS-V, I'm talking about the traditional big Cadillac like the Deville, or the DTS as it is called now, besides I seriously doubt the new V-series sporty Caddys could match the AMG Mercs.

I thought even most Americans consider luxury European imports to be more prestigous than all the Lincolns and Cadillacs.
