Recently I've been looking on the Internet for a site that tells what kinds of cars are used as police vehicles in different countries. Unfortunately, I've come up a little short. I thought since there's people from many different countries on this site, you guys could help me out. Here in America, the police pretty much just use Crown Victorias, plus with the occasional Chevrolet Impala and a few different types of SUVs. However in other countries there's probably more of a variety in the types of police cars used. I know that in the UK many police cars are Ford Mondeos, and in Australia the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon are common choices. I've even seen some pictures of BMWs and Mercedes' as police cars in Germany. Anyway, if you could post a message saying what country you're from and waht kind of police cars are common there, I'd appriciate it. Thanks!

In Finland we've had Ford Mondeo police cars in use since about 1995. Before that it was Saab 99/900 for several decades (70's-90's). Police vans are VW Transporter's (IV) and before that they were Ford Transit's. Over 90% of the police sedans are Mondeo's. Once in a while you see a Toyota Avensis or Skoda Octavia also used.

In Belgium they get many different things, they had many models from Ford, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Toyota, ...
Around here (west-Brussels) currently I think that the most common ones are Peugeot 206, Toyota Corolla, Ford Mondeo, Opel Astra/Vectra, Renault Scénic.

A very intersting page about German police cars:
http://www.polizeiautos.de/
Usually, but not always, they are using German cars. For historic reason the police of the country "Saarland" (belongs to Germany since 1957, before it was French) is still using Peugeot.

Soem years ago I've been to the police-headquarter in Dortmund. In the office I've seen a big poster of an early Porsche 924 (with the old licence-plate MES for Meschede) and i've asked "Hey, are you driving Porsche?"
The officer looked sadly to the poster and has said "Unfortunately these times are gone. Today we have Opel"
In the town of Hagen there is a local residence of the German Federal Bank. As money- and gold-transporters they have a fully armoured MAN and a Scania, too, both in police-design (green/white with blue lights and sirens).
When these trucks are on the road, they were escorted with -also fully armoured and in police-design, too- Mercedes S-classes (a W 140 and a W 126) and/or an Audi A 8. In the past they had an Audi V 8, too.

In Italy the Police use Fiat Marea, Alfa Romeo 159 and Subaru Legacy Wagon and Forester. The "Carabinieri" use a lot of small cars Fiat Uno, Punto, Stilo or Alfa 159 too

And here's another one, which also includes police vehicles used in other countries, including USA, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Bulgaria: http://www.emergency-vehicles.co.uk/ However to see the photos on this site, you must become a member (which requires a membership fee).

@ Neptune-
Even though I don't approve of SUVs and think every single one on the planet should be destroyed and melted down and used to make good cars like Toyota Camrys (no offense to you or your Expedition), I must admit the Expedition in the second pic does look pretty sweet

I know that in the UK many police cars are Ford Mondeos
Ford Mondeos are used as police cars in the UK, but it's not like they are in the majority or anything (certainly not like the way nearly every American police car seems to be a Crown Vic). And it depends which county in Britain you are in, in Hampshire (where I live) a lot of police cars are Volvo V70s (the pursuit and "area" cars).

SUV's are unusual for the German police, but sometimes they are using some.
My brother-in-law is a police-officer close to Berlin and for some years they had Opel Frontera's as regular cars.
He told me, that the ministery doesn't look for models or brands of police-cars, it is only interested in the price for the whole fleet. So when new cars will be bought, the policemen got the cars, which makers have made the best offers.
After the Frontera he got a Mercedes C-Klasse. This had the result, that the citizens were getting angry and have said "East Germany is a poor country and the police is driving Benz". He only could say "It's a fact, that this time Mercedes Benz has made the best price, less than opel or VW. What shall we do?"
