MMMMMMMMMMM!!! how morbid!!! don't doubt on keeping me up to date if you enter it i'm quite curious on what's in the sinde of it! how did you discover the garage the Rolls was in by the way? and do you know anything about why the house was left?

I found the house on the Buildings at Risk register for Scotland. I was just wandering around the grounds snapping photos of the house when I spotted the garage out the corner of my left eye.

The Buildings at Risk register for Scotland doesn't give much information about why the house is empty, but here's what it does give:

"The former owner went bankrupt in 2000 and vacated the property. He and the current owner are in a dispute that is unlikely to be resolved in the short term. Development of the extensive garden grounds is unlikely to be granted Planning Permission."

Most likely nobody would notice if the Rolls went missing. However, moving it would only be possible if you had a tow truck, I think. I doubt any of the cars we own would have the pulling power to tow a car of its weight. Trying to sell it and register it back on the road without the consent of the owner could also be an issue. Still, I'm sure even in that condition it would still fetch a reasonable amount of money.

If you paste the coordinates 55°51'20.94" N 4°35'25.06" W into Google Earth or Google Maps you can see exactly where the house is, and you can see the garage in the back left. It also appears that a large area of the woodland is also within the grounds of the house.

I also visited another abandoned house nearby on the same day. No car at this one and I didn't get inside either, but it's still an interesting find. Here's a video of it followed by a short drive around the area by me:

http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2r213f7&s=4

As for this one, I have no idea what so ever why it's empty. It appears to have been empty for less time and in better condition.

Also interesting is that Rolls Royce in Belgium. It looks like it's been lying abandoned for some time also, but DVLA has the date of liability as January 2009 and vehicle status as "SORN not due".

Yeah, it's a database full of "listed" buildings that are currently uninhabited or deteriorating. A listed building in the UK is a building or other structure officially designated as being of special architectural, historical or cultural significance. It is a widely used status, applied to around half a million buildings.

http://www.buildingsatrisk.org.uk/BAR
You can search it here. There's only small photos of places though, and no interior shots.

Those are cars abandoned during the evacuation of New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina. Lots of cars that were trapped in the evacuation traffic jams ran out gas and were left behind by there owners (I’m guessing these maybe some of those cars that ran out of fuel) These cars were for sure left in a area that had massive flooding, as you can see water marks left by the water. I assume they were originally left abandoned on the road-way, and road workers clearing out the roads simply pushed them under this overpass.

These cars were still there under Interstate Ten (I-10) as of 4/14/2006. I would assume that they have been taken to a junk yard by now, as they are all Write-Off's ...

Missing (or losing?) your car because of a flood must be the most annoying thing on earth, i mean, there are cases in where the water just sweeps your car along the street and ends up piled up agains other cars or into a tree or something therefore destroyed, but when your car didn't suffer anything at all but just got flooded so no "hit" damage is there but only what the water did it must be real annoying, i mean once it dries the car is in good condition in terms of "shape" but then the water has ruined the rest, so you have to waste a car good in "shape" but death in the mechanic part :ohwell:

Neptune talks about cars, which were abandoned by their owner at catastrophes or other incidences, so I've thought about that.

After Chernobyl was blown up, I've read something about a big junkyard, where all contaminated cars and trucks have been brought from Pripjat and around.

In late 1989, where thousands of GDR-fugitives had overrun the West-German embassy ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Botschaft_Prag )
and when other thousands were escaped to Austria across the Hungarian border, hundreds, even thousands of GDR-cars have been abandoned in Prague and Hungaria.
What happend with them? As I remember articles from that time, some were brought back to the GDR with trucks, the government has organized, but surely not all of them.

Maybe I should've kept some of the pictures of abandoned cars and trucks I've seen, and made copies before turning them over the Town of Brookhaven all those years ago. Now I'm inspired to click a few new shots of junk cars both legally and illegally dumped.

In my area there aren't many illegally abandoned cars. Probably it depend, where you are livinung. In rougher parts of poor towns with many old industrial areas the chance would be better.

I remember actually just one abandoned car, a wreck of a DAF 66, placed besides a rotten barn in the village, where my mother-in-law lives. As my wife's brother has said, this DAF-wreck stand there since around 25 years.

In the second next village, where a K 70-friend lives, is a guy -known in that village as a crazy idiot- who has a plenty of old cars and many more motorbikes on his ground, the former garden of a farm-house. He has mainly old Volkswagens, included a VW 181 "Thing" as original fire-fighter-car, also one Mercedes ambulance, two Unimogs and dozens of motorbikes, several from the 50ies.
I wonder, what's the sence of owning this stuff. Sure, some vehicles are old and rare - but what a sense it shall make, to let them standing around in the weather?

About the last situation I remember one experience, I had made a long time ago, in 1991, when I was a youngster with my K 70-hobby.

On a classic car-market in Northern Germany one guy has asked us, if we are interested in a K 70 for spare-parts. He had such a car.

O.k., after the market had finished, we went to him, it was not far away. The K 70 was rotten, it stands for a longer time outside. Some months later a friend of mine has picked it up, just because it had a rare gearbox-version, but this is annother story.

This guy was really proud of his oldtimer-"collection". He loved mainly the Mercedes W 110 "fintail", the NSU Prinz 4 and the VW 1303 ("Super Beetle" in America). Some cars were standing around. If the space was missing, because he got other cars, he wrecked the worse one of his "collection". "Wrecking" meant, that he has dismantled the doors, the hoods and the engine - and has put all these parts on a mountain. Outside. On the grass. In the rain. And it was in the farest Northwest of Germany, the wet Frisian country (wet by rain and salty-wet by the wind from the North Sea, a definetely bad place for old cars).
By the way: he had also K 70-doors for sale. Not visible, because at the bottom of this door-mountain "The were excellent, when I've put them there!" ( ca 4 or 5 years before).

He told us, what rare cars he got, a Mercedes 230 with a body of a 220 S, one of the last made NSU Prinz 4 "I drove extra to Belgium to get it" and so on.

I listened to him, saw this -former- beautiful cars stucking in the deep, wet grass and at least I've asked him: "Why do you buy all these nice classics, when you finally let them rotten to death in this sticky mud?"

He got big eyes, shouted only "Oh nein!" -means "Oh, no!"- and started to cry.

nono, he wasn't mad, he was really seriously hurt. I've probably just said loudly a truth, he had tried to suppress out of his mind, because it was a truth, bad for him, if the thought about it objectively.

I'm not a psychologist, but I've caused obviously something in his thinking by just telling the truth.

All i can imagine is that he had a problem he didn't want to realze about or something, it's not that normal that you do a thing and then cry because you do it, he obviously had a problem or something.

This looks like a unique situation:
Abandoned Heavy Dump-Trucks
How much money must a company be making that it's not worth the trouble for them to do anything but abandon these? Even the scrap value would be enormous.
