same here. At first i thought i had to logout and get back in but still no magic button..

Maybe some counter with the number of visits in the last 5 minutes, or something else that would display an unusually high amount of activity? Otherwise we're just guessing if bots are present.

Wondered what that was.

Site was really slow earlier. I hit filter bots. Seemed to work but I supposed there is just a lot of activity happening right now.

I often wonder if somebody is just uploading pictures and saving the links on like a word document and then spamming all the comments because I think that’s what chasing ex does when he uploads 85 billion pictures. I wonder if that boggles down the site.

Indeed, usually the bots are not a problem so it is the combination of a lot of people + the bots. Except for cases like Thursday when I added the feature when many bots are there at the same time.
Filtering the bots is only removing a part of the load, there are still a lot of people I suppose at some time.

For the site, I think the heaviest things are editing comments (especially old ones) and changing car info (something done a lot of course).
Adding new info is much easier for the database, even if it is still more work for the server than just browsing the site.
Among the browsing activities, the search in comments is probably the heaviest task.

Technical info: in addition to the actual data (vehicle info, comments, etc.) stored in the database, there are also indexes. These help to find/sort data more quickly, but it means that when you update the data you also have to update these indexes.
It makes browsing faster but insert/update slower.
I may have put indexes on too many fields, e.g. timecode, episode id, country, etc. These are not used so much for sorting/searching, but each update of a car requires updating these.
I'll try to remove some of the indexes, and we'll see if it works better. Difficult to tell the result in one day, we'll see in the next days if it seems to improve or if it is worse. Maybe it won't have any impact

That's strange, I see in the log a recurring error "Too many open files" but I don't know what causes it.
Also, at some point that error pops in the log even when the site seems to work. So I don't know if it is related, but for the moment I don't have another clue

I've just had one now, but it's a one off as a follow up refresh cleared it.

Just happened to me too, and for some reason it won't upload any images it shows a message saying maximum height 550px (but images are under that height, and it has uploaded images from the same batch and format)

I'm now getting a "503 Service Unavailable" error whenever i browse through the site. Thumbnails of various cars are also broken now.

Probably because I am trying to validate right now and am opening multiple pages at the same time. I'm getting a lot of messages. Usually refresh or backing up clears it.
